I guess another set of the inquiry should be “don’t care too,” ima add that. Didn’t think of that.

I've always had other bands in addition to brand new to get me through shit and I've been doubling down on them since it happened. JEW, circa, thrice, thursday, remembering there are still bands from my youth that helped me as much as brand new who are still around and worth latching onto. Science fiction was getting me through an extremely hard time but it wasn't hard to find even more comfort in the amulet when I could no longer play SF

Never really listened to them on a regular basis, I would usually just go through phases where I listened to TDAG, the demos, and Daisy a lot. I don’t feel any urge to listen to any of it now, and they were one of my favorite bands.

Dustin was big for me when it all went down. A lot of his lyrics on commitment and humanity and what being a husband, father etc meant to him through his solo records were inspiring in a way, since I feel my life heading closer in that direction.

That's why the amulet spoke to me too. Anthony has shifted his focus to topics like family and commitment and redemption

Seeing Circa and Thrice together a few weeks after all this went down was a much needed pick me up and reminder not everything I found comfort in through my hardest times has been ruined.

Can't Get It Out came on shuffle. Ngl, it makes me mad how much I love their work. I enjoyed the song and resented at it at the same time. It was weird.

In addition to everyone else that's been named here, I want to call specific attention to Jimmy Eat World, specifically Clarity, as something that always helped (and continues to help) me get through hard times. If anyone finds they need something else to listen to when things get tough, give that one a shot.

As I said when posting I expected the article to get slammed. Thought at least thought someone would take the time to get out of the tribalism box and try to understand another perspective. More comments on capitalization than content is telling enough in itself.

Also, Gaslight Anthem's 59 Sound is another great comfort album

Every once and a while one of their songs will pop into my head without really thinking about. As soon as I realize what band it is I feel gross and angry. Part of that is anger at myself for letting their songs get stuck in my head, part of it is because Jesse still hasn't faced any real consequences and probably never will, and part of it is because the other members of the band have a platform and power and refuse to condemn his actions.

This goes for their entire discography. To my eyes, this is still an unresolved issue. I made a promise to myself to never listen to the band until this was resolved and only if it was resolved satisfactorily. The band seems content to just fade away, in my opinion that means it will never be resolved. The band remaining silent is to be complicit.

"This isn't about the victims..." Fuck that, yes it is.
    It's about the victims.

I understand the perspective. I think it's flawed and naive

Just because this person laid out their thoughts doesn't mean I have to act like their ideas are valid.

    That article was nonsense.

I feel dirty reading something so fucking toxic and stupid.

Edit: And yeah, it’s fucking dumb to refuse to capitalize letters and use periods in place of commas. It makes that shitty, trashy article even shittier and trashier.

Edit 2: Also, big lol to “tribalism box,” a truly horrific metaphor, when one considers the entire article was about maintaining the tribalism of Brand New fandom.

Let's play advocate for bands that do good for the community with people we can be proud of instead. How about that for advocating, I dunno maybe that's a strange concept.

Also anyone looking to play "devil's advocate" for anything is pretty much always misguided just from the start, in my experience.

Also the "content" of that post is gross and also harmful and also shouldn't be amplified or shared by anyone.

I can’t wait for the next piece in what I’m assuming is a series:

“gold medal winning medical treatment. why everyone should stop being mean to larry nassar”

“we used to have pride in our gymnastics team winning gold medals. but now that pride is a whisper. we couldn.t escape our tribal boxes to see how talented larry was at treating these athletes. and all those women bullied him. which is the real issue here. society is broken and full of bullies.”

  19. This type of comment is so fucking ridiculous and patronizing. I understand the other "perspectives" — that doesn't fucking give them credibility or equal validity. Understanding the perspective of a bad argument, made badly, doesn't change anything about the actual argument being offered.

That's because the "content" is really badly written, really badly argued, and not actually worth commenting on. Pulling it apart point by point is not worth anyone's time.

  20. What is the point of being the poster in this thread that repeatedly makes posts in support of this band? Over, and over, and over again? You wanna listen to the band? Listen to them and shut the fuck up about it. Being a public advocate for them right now is fucking gross.

Like there are no “two sides” to this. Believe it or not, with regard to a surprising number of things, there’s a correct side and...nothing else because you shouldn’t believe anything other than the correct side. This is one of those things. There is no valid alternative perspective to this.

This is all that needs to be said ^

Goddamn I hate when I see this thread get bumped.

reptar, i think your desire to be able to connect with this band again has made you receptive to the toxic bs Brand New apologists are spewing out of the woodwork. I get that it sucks but you just gotta accept what happened here and act accordingly.

I though the point of a message board was to have conversation with different perspectives, which is what I thought the article brought. Don't want to come off as 'f'in gross'.

the point of a message board is to talk to people with common interests lol, this isn't a debate oriented forum
