To be honest, Fall Out Boy fans overstate how drastic the change was. They have really progressed their sound in a natural way. FOB is actually a rare band that successfully builds off of each of their albums, while pushing in a new direction.

If you listen to Take This To Your Grave and then MANIA immediately, it would be very jarring, but if you listen sequentially, it really is a natural progression, and it's one of the most impressive things about this band. The shift from Folie A Deux to Save Rock and Roll was a slightly more drastic shift than some of their others, but it's not like a whole different band the way some of the fans act.

I think you'd actually really enjoy Folie A Deux, and probably Infinity On High. It's worth checking out TTYG and From Under the Cork Tree, if for no reason than just to understand the evolution of the band. They really have one of the most fascinating careers out of any modern rock band.

I literally just realised Soul Punk existed. Like, I had thought that was the EP he put out and that was it. That's a separate thing. Patrick put out a solo album six years ago, omfg. where WAS I????

 

Please don't sleep on the deluxe edition of Soul Punk - some of Pat's best solo stuff is on there.

 

There's even a Japanese edition with an extra track!

 

This whole time you guys were talking about Soul Punk I assumed it was a genre of music and not an actual album.

I am about to dive into Soul Punk for the first time. I'm expecting not to really like it but I would like to be wrong

 

on the 4th of july at philly they played a soul punk cut over the PA and me and my gf were stunned

 

I'd ballpark their other reunion albums as 5/10 and 3/10 respectively but this is at least 8.5/10 if that helps.

 

What song did they play? This City or Spotlight?

The Eagles already have an anthem anyways and it's way more appropriate.

JEW, FOB, and Circa are like clockwork when it comes to releasing consistently great albums.
