Black metal I don't completely dislike, must be good.

 

Am i like one of 4 people who liked supercharger? That was the album that got me into machine head. I loved/ still love nu metal though. Fight me, i don't care. Wasn't crazy about blood stone and diamonds.

 

there's a new Dimmu Borgir album on the way and honestly, I'm really curious, almost excited

 

I know absolutely nothing about production but if I had to hazard a guess? Lots of shit going on in the mix at once. Add to that the fact that so many contemporary death metal bands pursue the "loud" production, it adds up to a muddled, highly compressed sounding mastering.

But, again, I know fuck-shit all about record production so who knows haha.

 

Looks like Slayer’s upcoming NA tour is going to be their last. Feels bad, man

 

as i said in the tour speculation thread, i'd be more excited about it if slayer's last few albums weren't shells of their former self. with that being said and the fact i've come around a bit on the rumored lineup (slayer/log/anthrax/behemoth/testament), i'll probably cop lawn tickets or nosebleed seats when it comes through the chicagoland area.

just because I need to be more positive in this thread in general (sorry about all the negativity recently :( ), here's a new song from slugdge, the world's best slug themed death metal duo:

 

I didn't expect to like it much, but this Royal Thunder album is great. Excited to see them when they come through in March with King Buffalo.

 

If Slayer announces this as their last tour, I'll probably wind up going... especially if LOG is the co-headliner.

As gutting as it is to see Slayer bow out, it’s probably time they do. They’ve been on pretty good form live the last few years (compared to how iffy their shows were a few years back). So it’s probably best for them to do a farewell tour while still sounding good. If they come over to the uk I’ll definitely try for tickets if I can do the dates.

 

New Twitching Tongues. Instrumentally it sounds good. Something sounds off about the vox though. A bit too muffled or something.

Twitching Tongues is a weird band for me because I like their singer a lot, and the music is cool, but I feel like they don’t...fit together.

 

I enjoy them a good deal

 

Twitching Tongues' singer has probably the most bizarre vocal delivery of any vocalist I've heard in quite a while and that strange disjointedness is part of, I think, why I like them so much. It takes a lot to make me go "what the fuck am I listening to?" even a little these days ever since diving into the deep end of extreme metal so TT is honestly a breath of fresh air in that regard.

Honestly somebody could probably send me some of the weirdest shit they know that they think is laughably bad and I would probably love it at this point.

 

Yeah, it's like, death metal/occasional grind riffs but with vocals that sit somewhere between Ozzy Osbourne and Type O Negative. It's weird for sure, and it didn't even click with me until their last album.

 

Paolo Girardi cover art = instant listen from me, ha. This sounds fucking gnarly as hell.

 

I'd like Dimmu Borgir a lot more if they took all the unnecessary symphonic elements out of their music. And stopped dressing like a deviantArt page fucked a VampireFreaks page.
