Yeah the debut had a promising sound but ended up being a bit....faceless? Didn't distinguish itself in a big sea of quality Americana. This one really pops though.

I mostly stopped going back to it other than "What a Woman Wants to Hear," which is probably the track that was least representative of what the rest of the album sounded like.

And also easily its best track.

No question. I really love that song. Beyond that, my favorite stuff he'd done before this album were his co-writes on the last Miranda Lambert LP.

He's started shit with Kacey Musgraves and Aaron Watson in the past, and in one incident dismissively referred to "Sturgis Simpson" and "Jeremy Isbell" in an interview. He's pretty consistently been going to bat for all the worst pop country names out there right now, even if he has championed a few solid artists in the past.

I don't know, he just strikes me as a pretty bro-dude-y kinda guy, and his tone-deaf rant about how it's "hard" to play female country artists on the radio rubbed me even more the wrong way.

    Slow down, Quentin Supporter

Can we just talk about "House of Cards" for a second? That second verse might be the best thing in music I've heard in a while. It takes my breath away each time.

HC McEntire from Mount Moriah put out a new solo album and it’s really good. Also Mary Gauthier put out a new album full of amazing songwriting.

Saw Jason Isbell for the third time on Saturday and it was the best he's been yet. Sold out show too, which was awesome to see, especially in a place like Indianapolis. Been on a DBT kick ever since and I just gotta say - Mike Cooley needs to hurry up and release a solo album already.

That Low Anthem album was a nice surprise, I had literally heard nothing about it. It also seems they went back to the sound of their first two albums which is a good thing bc that last album was just not good.

    The rivalry is back on

I’m loving the I’m With Her album.

“Game To Lose” specifically reminds me a ton of S/T era Nickel Creek, which I’m 100% here for

Greg Robson mentioned it to me a few weeks ago, but I haven't followed them much since whatever album they released in 2011. Interested to check it out.

It does a pretty good job of sounding like each of them while also sounding like something new. I can definitely hear Nickel Creek and I can definitely hear lots of what I loved about that last Sarah Jarosz LP.
