I think they are a great label.

I really liked the last Tribulation album (my introduction to the band) but this new one isn't really doing much for me. It sounds like their other stuff, but it's missing the "catchiness" or something.

I'll still make fun of them as much as possible for putting shit like American Satan out. That looked like a dumpster fire. Plus they ruined Darkest Hour for an album.

That leaked? Well well, time to scour the interwebs.

Yup, I think it might have just leaked today. It's not a bad album. In fact, I'll probably grow to like it more over time. Just lacked some of the immediacy that I felt The Children of the Night had.

Nice little sludgy doom EP that I just came across:

I'm not gonna listen to the new Machine Head song yet, since I haven't heard anything from the album yet and it's only a week away.

I don't know if I should be excited for it or not... I've always liked Machine Head, even through their more nu/rap metal days, and I really liked the direction they were going with the last couple of albums, but Rob has said that this one has more rapping and is a departure from the last couple of records so who knows...

In my opinion Machine Head is a step above Butt Rock. Plus, Rob Flynn is a bit full of himself. They do make some good music but they are nothing ground breaking.

I love MH, I think the only bad album they’ve made so far was Supercharger. I think for straight up Metal they’re one of the best out there. I’m seeing them do an evening with later this year and they can easily fill a set like that with bangers from start to finish.

From the songs I’ve heard so far from this album I think it’s gonna be good but nothing groundbreaking. Most likely it’ll be if your already a MH fan you’ll like it but I don’t think it’s gonna win a load of new fans.

I grabbed $5 tickets on Black Friday for "An Evening With Machine Head" - I saw them do the same thing a couple of years ago and it was great. Lots of deep cuts along with fan favorites. They have no problem filling 2+ hours.

I've just never been super into rapcore/nu-metal type stuff so these types of songs are disappointing after The Blackening/Unto the Locust. I will admit I never listened to their previous release beyond a passing listen or two in the weeks after it was released so I don't really recall the progression between Unto the Locust and these more recent tracks. But they just sound like shit compared to anything from those former two albums. IDK, guys.

I think a large portion of it could also just be changing tastes. Machine Head and BTBAM just don't do anything for me anymore. The new BTBAM song just bores me even with it being a shorter length compared to some of their more egregious songs they've put out since Colors.

Yeah, like I said, I haven't heard any of the new MH songs yet, but if they're doing the rap/numetal thing again, I'm worried.

I liked some of the rap/numetal stuff they did before, but in 2018, I'm not really into that stuff as much. Plus The Blackening and Unto the Locust were the best albums they ever released. Why back peddle and go to a sound that was extremely criticized by fans in the past? Strange decision.

They are to an extent but it’s nowhere as rap metally as people have been making out. I’d say from the songs I’ve heard it sits somewhere in between the style of the burning red and their more recent output.

I can see why MH have decided to switch things up again as I feel bloodstone and diamonds didn’t really get the love it deserved (even though it’s great imo). I’m still not 100% sold on their style change this time but I’ll wait to make my judgement on that once I’ve heard the whole album.

I personally believe you shouldn’t put the entire weight of an album on it’s singles. In the grand context of the full album it may sound worse or better.

I’d also add that I’m probably a bit more biased to this band than some as I’ve grown up listening to them since I was like 13, I’m 33 later this year. Out of all their albums I’ve only disliked 1 album (supercharger) and wasn’t fully into another (unto the locust which I’d give a 6.5/10).

But if the singles sound awful to you, then what's to say that your opinion of the rest of the album is going to be different?

I'm done positing about the quality of Machine Head in 2018. Here's a couple of new jams to check out this afternoon:

Agrimonia: Good crust with black and post-metal influences with one of the dudes from At the Gates involved with them. I completely forgot that I saw these guys back in 2013(?) with Take Over and Destory. Awesome stuff here (I also still hate Soundcloud embedding with a fiery passion):

Hear Swedish Crust Collective Agrimonia's Expansive New Burner "A World Unseen"

Spectral Lore/Jute Gyte split: Somehow I feel like a 2 song/40+ split from two one-man black metal bands is a great treat to listen to on a Friday:

I'll share some jams I've been jamming lately as well, while we're at it. Spotify has been hitting me with good shit as of late.

This is probably the most delightfully wanky shit I've heard in my life that actually works.

Some gnarly downtempo out of Denmark. When this genre is done right it's like my favorite thing ever I swear to god.

New The Crown single. Melodeath that actually has some teeth.

Some traditional heavy metal out of Canada. RIYL riffs. Vox can be a bit of a turnoff though.

    Re: Machine Head

Bloodstone & Diamonds is a great album and it's a shame they're following it up with an inexplicable return to their godawful nu-metal phase. Hopefully there'll be some contemporary Machine Head sound in there but I'm not all that excited to listen.
