i am certainly on the side that doesn’t think Rosenberg thought WWE signed a famous abuser, i didn’t even know that guy or the incident that occured (why i quoted Drew earlier but no one explained it to me). i don’t follow MMA whatsoever, so that thought never crossed my mind. I only gained that context from piecing together the context of other posts. but following up his mistake with “lol ok with a life with a life #withalife” feels a lot more teenager who can’t handle being told they’re wrong than it does 40 year old professional.

 

like, seriously. if you’re going to choose to make your living based ENTIRELY off the internet and hoping people care see a tweet and like it enough to listen to your podcast about wrestling, you should learn to pick your battles at some point. the dude can’t handle being told he’s wrong about shit, this or otherwise.

 

Well yeah, but he covers wrestling, so he doesn’t have to be a human being. He gets to be dumb and/or an asshole and then when he gets called on it, tell people they “got worked”. That’s how wrestling coverage works. Duh.

As someone who knows of War Machine the tag team and knew about War Machine the mma fighter, I agree with Mick and Rosenberg. I’ve heard nothing but great things about the tag team, but I’ve always associated the name with the fighter and could see how WWE, a publicly traded company that cares so much about appearance, would want to change their name

 

I'm kinda surprised Marvel lets anyone use War Machine, but I'm sure they got the name from something else too

 

yeah tbf i do think it’s a valid point now that i know the horrible shit associated with the name. the mistake never bothered me about the “he” over “they” either. what bothers me is he had to tweet out #withalife over 6 or 7 tweets to tickle his own toes about having a successful podcast instead of... doing the bare minimum amount of research, taking the L, or dropping the subject

 

holy fuck. threw on Impact on twitch and was greeted by Don West setting up a bra and panties match immediately into the debut of The Johnsons. literally the worst. Don West looked like he covered himself in glue and rolled around in a Tommy Bahamas or something

This thread is the first time i'd heard of the MMA guy. When I hear War Machine, I think comics and the MCU. Casual WWE fan and kids will probably think exactly the same. More hardcore fans will no doubt know the tag team. I can't imagine too many people outside actual MMA fans will have made that connect to the shithead in prison.

But then again, it may have got a lot more news time in the states? In the UK, unless it's Connor McGregor, no one gives a shit haha

Exactly! All I’m saying is I have no issue with his very first tweet, and it’s something that’s crossed my mind multiple times before. Everything he did after the fact I’m not particularly interested in and is obnoxious for the sake of being obnoxious.

 

Well, you don’t really have to give him the benefit of the doubt, because he very clearly never stated that he thought WWE signed THAT War Machine. I mean, the fact that that is even part of this discussion is absolutely baffling to me right now

That’s totally fair, and I never once defended Rosenberg’s tweets after the initial one. Only thing I’ve said is everyone going crazy over his follow-up tweets are feeding into his behavior.

All I’m saying is if WWE is willing to change someone’s name simply so they can create their own trademarks, why is it such a controversial thing to suggest that they would change the name of performers who share their name with someone who did what War Machine did to Christy Mack?

 

James Storm is hoping to get an offer from the WWE.

Goldberg was offered matches in NJPW.

Wrestling has been weird lately.

 

Storm is a given I feel, seemed like an amicable split and there aren't many folks playing the veteran role in NXT atm

 

I'm a pretty huge MMA fan and also a ROH fan and the name War Machine never made me think of that asshole who is in jail now. So, it's an individual manner. I don't think i've like Rosenberg for a while though. Idk. If War Machine changes their name I really don't think it's a big deal, the bigger deal is if WWE lets the fly in the ring like they usually do. I fucking PRAY they don't dumb them down to typical big guy stuff. Because they can do some insane things.

 

My opinion of Rosenberg definitely changes from his naivety of the Indie scene though. Not that I think he HAS to know about it but his opinion on wrestling mean even less to me now. Shoemaker is in the know about the indies and that's why he is the fuckin man. He still needs to find a better person to do his podcast with though.

 

They're letting Dain do more and more high risk stuff, so I reckon they'll still be given freedom in NXT. Main roster? Well, who knows.

 

i would like to hear a NJPW "fan" explain why they don't want one of the biggest names in the history of the business to make a few appearances and work a few <10 minute matches. it would be enormous for business with the casual fan on a level Jericho couldn't achieve, and he did great.

 

i'd be down af for a Suzuki/Goldberg match

 

Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh idk how I feel about Goldberg in New Japan. I guess it would be something i'd make sure to watch and that's what they want.

 

NXT tickets purchased too, so excited for it, especially with how stacked NXT is again
