why is he acting like a dick to Rosenberg in particular though? Did he do something? Seems like he is just upset Rosenberg is a wrestling fan who has been able to live his dream without needing to take the in-ring approach.

I think that people turning on Rosenberg is a bit much. The guy does love wrestling, and he is a particular type of fan.

Joey's fans, in my experience, are fucking dicks. They are the smart marks who have shit to scream at every local indie guy.

I don't think there is a happy medium, and they probably won't ever get along.

Rosenberg is a dork but far from the worst one out there.

I don't see why it has to be so black and white.

Rosenberg has a long history of dumbassery and what he said was stupid as shit.

But at the same time the general reaction has been out of proportion and getting hypercritical over something like that is everything that is the worst about the iwc.

I don’t mind Rosenberg as a person. I don’t care what ROH guys he doesn’t know. I think he has an unbearable presence as a TV personality, and as that is his only place in my life, I don’t like him. He is too thin skinned for someone that feels the need to tweet every thought that enters his brain.

I mean, someone only following WWE and not the indies is fine, but if you’re going to be a “journalist” in the field, take the fucking 10 seconds to google who WWE just signed instead of assuming. Especially if you’re assuming something that insanely dumb.

Actually, never mind, I was trying to sorta give him the benefit of the doubt, but how fucking stupid do you have to be to think WWE signed someone currently serving a life sentence in prison and your only reaction is “he’s going to need to change his name!”???

    He’s a fucking idiot.

from reading those, yeah Rosenberg is a bit of a dick for dismissing indie wrestling but Joey still comes across worse. The mere fact that he engages with Rosenberg invalidates any argument he'd have about Rosenberg's relevancy. Just ignore him. Or maybe make an appeal about how rude it is to write off indie wrestling like that. But attacking him for being a fan of WWE just seems kinda low. Some wrestling fans are gonna like the indie stuff. Others like the WWE product. The ones who like the WWE product shouldn't shit on the indie stuff, but even when they do, attacking them for liking WWE stuff isn't the right way to respond.

i think rosenberg can be a bit of an annoying dude, but i thnk he genuinely comes off as someone who's in LOVE with what he does and what he's able to do. I'll admit. I had the EXACT same thought about 'war machine' as rosenberg. My initial instinct was, 'wait...the guy who's in jail for beating his gf?"

right and that’s fine, but you’re a fan, not someone whose career is to cover pro wrestling. fuck, all he had to do was look at the thumbnail of WWE’s own article before speaking.

I am a journalist. Peter Rosenberg is not a journalist.

I don't think Rosenberg is saying he thought WWE signed War Machine. He's just saying that he can't imagine WWE allowing them to keep the name because of the MMA fighter of the same name—a guy who was given a life sentence for nearly beating his ex-girlfriend to death. Which, in my opinion, is a totally valid thing to say. As I mentioned in this thread beforehand, I had the same exact thought. Every time I have heard War Machine mentioned over the past couple years, my immediate reaction was, Oof, not the best name choice. That wouldn't fly if WWE comes calling.

There is a lot to be annoyed of when it comes with Rosenberg, but this is a pretty valid tweet. Everyone freaking out about it is now just playing into everything the majority of people hate about him to begin with. He now gets to play a heel character with his branded hashtags and catch phrases.

That's possible. Considering he thought it was one guy instead of a tag team, I'm inclined to say nope. If That's true it makes his statement only like 60% as dumb as it originally was.

cmon mick, youre better than this. This is these guys' entire brand & legacy theyve been building for years. Take one look at a google result and the entire first two pages are the character and the movie. Its such a dumb thing to try and police.

It's very clear that's what he meant. He's talking about the name solely. Given the fact that he goes into talking about how closely he followed the War Machine/Christy Mack story, he obviously knows this dude is in fucking prison for life.

Gimme a break. If you're a MMA fan or even followed one iota of the War Machine/Christy Mack story, it's IMPOSSIBLE not to instantly think of that situation when you hear the words "War Machine." I have already stated in this thread that the Marvel character and the Netflix film have definitely diluted the Google results, but if we're talking just a year ago, those Google hits were VERY different. I know, because we covered that story.

Could Rosenberg worded his tweet better. Of course. And of course he's now doubling down. But do I think his first tweet was somehow meant to disparage everything War Machine has worked for over the past couple years? Absolutely not. WWE is NOTORIOUS for being hyper vigilant when it comes to what the names of their performers can be associated with. Submission Sorority, anyone? It's totally valid to hear of a tag team called War Machine and be like, Yeah, that's not going to fly in WWE.

I don't particularly care if they keep the name or not. If they do, I have zero issue with it. If they don't, I can at least understand the logic in changing it. Maybe WWE lets them keep it. If they don't, it's not in the least big surprising.

Oh, and by the way, COUNTLESS people who have made it to WWE, who spent years building brands and legacies wrestling around the world, have had their names changed for no reason whatsoever other than for trademarks and the like: Prince Devitt, El Generico, Kevin Steen, KENTA, Pac, Tyler Black, Jon Moxley. The list goes on and on and on. So why is it so wild to have the thought, "Hmm, wonder if WWE will make War Machine change their name considering 8 out of every 10 superstar has their name changed, and, oh, it just so happens that there was a very public case of a guy battering his porn star ex-girlfriend and is now sitting in a jail cell for the rest of his life who has the same name"?

    man, I'm pretty Prestigious

well its rosenberg, so no, I'm not going to give him the "well he's not a fucking moron" benefit of the doubt. Sorry.

and if your argument is "well a year ago it was different" then doesnt that really say everything? I don't really care if they change their name. WWE could have a million reasons for asking. I think that's a dumb one, but it's honestly a little beside the point. Most people are shitting on Rosenberg because of how he handled the whole thing. Like, he said some dumb shit, sure. He works for WWE professionally and I'm pretty sure my little cousin would've known to at least read the press release. But this would've been such a nothing story if his response hadn't basically been "well you guys are all marks."

that being said, again, get outta here with this. WWE changing someone's name for $$$ because they're greedy and try to put it into everyones contract is totally different. that is not what rosenberg said. that is not what he meant. don't equate the two

I was gonna quote a bunch of people but I see @Mick did the cleaning up on this already. Peter's very annoying the majority of the time, but you gotta be out of your mind if you thought that he was under the impression that WWE signed the guy who beat his girlfriend to a pulp.
