Love that Spirit cover. I wonder if he will have longer sets on his actual tour. Counting this show last night, his last 3 shows have all just been 12-13 songs. With 2 full albums, crowes and a gaslight song or two here and there he can easily play for 2 hours.

interesting choice to open a show with a super slow piano version of 59 Sound haha but it sounded really cool. would have loved to be there.

didnt know Brian was such a good piano player. i knew he contributed keyboards to some of his solo stuff and possibly a handful of TGA songs but damn.

He's said a few times that he's spent the last couple months learning the piano. He had an instagram video of him practicing a little while ago. Will be cool to see if he does more of that moving forward but I assume it'd be reserved for more intimate solo shows like this, which he doesn't do often.

Forget Me Not on piano is beautiful though

Fallon is the kind of guy I'd love to see do a VH1 Storytellers kind of thing.

    Maybe I was wrong:

Praying he incorporates the piano when I see him. I know he says he won't do Gaslight songs with a different backing band because it feels wrong, so some piano versions of Gaslight songs would be awesome.

New song is great great great. Prayers is my least favorite of the 3. Really looking forward to the whole album.

So Neptune might be the Mojo Hand of the album?

Actually I guess what I’m reading it sounds more of the Desire of the album as it’s just plain and simple where as Mojo Hand got too weird.

Same here, haha. Totally get why some don’t like it but it was a fun surprise to me and the outro is one of my favorite moments on that album.

    Phew!

I just need this god damn album. Although, Fall Out Boy today to the Dangerous Summer next week can probably kill the time!

This makes me feel so much better! I respect your taste much more than whoever this guy is. His review didn't impress me at all.

I can't really articulate why but Neptune & Wilson are the two songs I am most looking forward to. I need this album now.

Those two are both really great. The only one I’m not really in love with is “Proof of Life.” It’s not bad, but it’s kind of boring. If I were to cut something to make the album a little shorter, that would be the one.

Is "Watson" some kind of Sherlock Holmes reference? Lol

Sounds like organs and more rhythm based guitar work plays a big role in this album. I’m excited, well even more excited I guess

Wrecked 'em? Damn near killed 'em!

HYPE. I love the fact that "Etta James" apparently could've been a Horrible Crowes b-side and that Fallon is playing around with new sounds and styles on this album.

Good interview. I'm not sure if this is a compliment or a criticism, but I've never seen an artist that is so open and candid about how he self-reflects on how he's perceived.

On one hand, I wish the guy could shut out the noise and just be himself.

On the other hand, it's interesting that he doesn't feel the need to hide all that junk that enters his head - the nonstop Bruce commentary from critics/fans, the self-doubt, etc.

He seems to be "in his own head" pretty heavily - The whole bit about how he doesn't want to sound like Gaslight, now he realizes he can.........these are things alot of songwriters probably feel but only he really expresses. I know in a previous article years ago he had mentioned how he never wanted to release a Brian Fallon album, he never wanted to me that cliched singer who goes solo.

He worries about every step he makes, it seems. And he questions himself alot, is the net effect I get from reading these interviews. And it's funny because he's the one guy I'm a fan of that I don't think SHOULD worry. Everything the man does is flat out GOLD.

great interview that adds a lot of context to some of his more well-known stances on things with Gaslight. with American Slang and Handwritten, he was loud and proud about wanting to be the biggest band, filling stadiums, the whole nine. in this piece he says he never really had those expectations of success and just wanted to do what was fun, but getting noticed by Bruce and the rest of the world so fast planted the seed of "ok, how do I top this". with that perspective and how they're doing the '59 gigs for fun, it's exciting to think what may grow out of it. it sounds to me like they are all on the same page and i am hopeful we get a happier, semi-active Gaslight out of this that no longer feels the need to run themselves into the ground on someone else's schedule.
