    I wish I liked this as much as everybody else seems to but it isnt really grabbing me. It feels to me like a band that is trying to be Radiohead rather than the actual Radiohead. A lot of the decisions they made in terms of things like song structure, vocal melodies and production sound like things that any band would choose when in the past, Radiohead has done things that only they would do. Not that these are necessarily bad, but they just arent what I loved in Radiohead's previous albums.

    All I keep thinking while listening is that this is a Radiohead album for people that dont like Radiohead

    I think "Ful Stop" and "Glass Eyes" have settled as my favorite tracks. For now, at least.

    Rarely would I recommend jumping all over a band's discography, but they basically have three widely regarded "masterpieces" (or whatever you want to call them, that's how I mention them in my review) and I highly recommend those first. In Rainbows, Kid A, and then OK Computer.

    In Rainbows is clearly the closest parallel to the new record. AMSP is almost its more downtrodden twin. Stylistically similar, but gloomier lyrically and less rock-oriented musically. IR would undoubtedly be where I'd recommend a new listener to go next.

  10. This is like...exactly what I say in my review. Haha.

    Im surprised that no one else shares this opinion. Im hoping its just a matter of my expectations getting in the way (has happened before) and I will love it in a couple weeks but we will see.

    My bad for asking for a file, thought since it was b sides and I was having trouble finding it, that it would be okay. Won't happen again.

    my impressions:

    -even though it's suspicious (for lack of a better word) to find them releasing 7 old songs, I really like how they managed to re-contextualize them into a coherent set with new arrangements;
    -it's kind of monochromatic (white/grey like the cover art) and lethargic, and doesn't have enough pathos to pull it off;
    -production and arrangements are sick AF;
    -high's are Rh high (TLW) but doesn't have as much highs as the rest of the (good) Rh albums has; and
    -when geniuses fuck up, they still do better than 90% of the shit out there...

    7/10

    I totally get how people feel it's a bit like a compilation, and I may be being a bit pedantic, but I really don't agree with this '7 old songs' thing. The really old ones like Burn The Witch and TLW fair enough, but ones that were debuted after TKOL are essentially written in this album's cycle. Just cos they were played live before doesn't mean they're an old song.

    Idk if I'd call these old songs. True Love Waits and Burn the Witch are, but the rest are all post In Rainbows (and the vast majority of those post King of Limbs). I've seen a bunch of reviews mention it and it's funny to me, road testing songs live in the 5 years in between albums doesn't really make them old imo. As far as the actual old ones, it's kind of always been the band's standard operating procedure to keep songs kicking around until they get them right - Motion Picture Soundtrack, Nude, Morning Mr. Magpie to name a few.

    /nerd rant

    Aha did you write this at the same time as me? Great minds think alike lol but I agree. Listen to In Rainbows and Nude fits seamlessly on it, similarly to slightly older songs such as Present Tense on AMSP...couldn't actually think of an album where that song would be better placed.

    Edit: yet again hahaha
