FFXIII wowed me with the promo material, enough to buy a console to play it, but i had not played since X. i was so entirely turned off by the paradigm system, and that the seemingly expansive world shown in trailers and Game Informer was really a linear cinematic experience for the most part. i went in looking for an exploration fix and left with more of a need for one.

That makes sense, I wasn't looking for an exploration fix and was pretty cool with the paradigm system as a whole so it makes sense that I would've liked it more haha

it looked phenomenal. i picked up XIII and i think Blue Dragon that day. i remember XIII getting i think a perfect score from Famitsu and thinking that meant something at the time lol

i respect your take, but an RPG that doesn't let me get lost in it if i want is a cardinal sin imo lol

Lightning Returns was my favorite of the series and I did like XIII. Could have done without XIII-2 though

I like XIII and thought that design and music wise it was one of the best in the series. The execution of these grand concepts they had in mind was just poor and the gameplay being on rails hurt the experience. The battle system really only began to shine in XIII-2 but the story was still not being executed as well as it could.

Fun fact outside of forced scenes I never used a summon in FFXV

And I'm sure there are many others who didn't either

Because there was never a stupid opportunity to use them

FFXV battle system was far too easy

It's a fine game though and I'm glad I played it even though it didn't floor me upon revisit

Yeah but it isn't really one of those either because of the goofy warping and the stuff you can do with the analog stick. It's a very weird mash up.

I had a really good time putting 50 hours into FFXV

I for one liked the gameplay physics and the battle system just enough to appreciate it despite it’s flaws

  20. I might give it another shot when our album is finished, I really do want to like it, I was a huge final fantasy fan as a kid.

I also (and I've said this a million times so I'm sorry for saying it again and being a stick in the mud) hate the idea of RPGs making parts of the story as DLC instead of just having it in the game, RPGs take so long to play and context is so important to them that I hate the idea of just revisiting it halfway through the plot to play a new part of it because of it not being included when the game came out

    MMOs excluded obviously

I definitely think we have a bright future for Final Fantasy though. I think that they are working out the kinks with the continued development of XV. I expect the next incarnation of an action battle system will be more tight.

What if Yoko Taro got to do a numbered Final Fantasy game?

In most situations I would agree, but I think there's merit in consistently pushing a narrative forward through linear gameplay when you absolutely adore the cast of characters and the constantly changing locales. I get everyone's problems with it, it's legit top 3 games of all time for me though.

Oh I have a few thoughts about this

    1. It would be extremely fun to see Yoko Taro doing all his interviews in a Moogle mascot head

    2. I imagine it being like FFX but to a way more extreme, with the whole "The only way to save the world is to kill your father" principle put into action but with way more emotions

    3. Since the FF fanbase is so diehard about wanting their 80-200 hour games I'm LOVING the idea of a FF fan (for example me) accidentally coming across an "ending" after 3 hours

    4. Yoko Taro likes to humanize everything in his games and I have a hard time imagining humanizing Malboros and Flans and the like so I'm not sure how that would be handled, I'd prefer for about like 50% of the FF enemies to behave like FF enemies but it'd be fun to see what he could do with it
