I really hope they work with Bill Stevenson again. Shame is probably their best sounding record after Crimson.

  4. But seriously, how important has this band been to you guys over time ? For me they obviously have been a huge part of my life. I can honestly say these guys have got me through a lot of shit. After 21 years I just love the they still truly care about the fans.

They’ve been in my rotating top five favorite bands since 2004. They’re probably the band I’ve listened to the most in my life, honestly. And you’re right, they’re a great band to be a fan of, because they’re so good to us still.

The trio was the first band that made me want to explore more music and helped shape my music taste. I remember listening to the Rock Against Bush albums way back, and Warbrain was the first song I really liked. So, I decided to check out more of the band's music, and they had just released Crimson.

I grew up without the internet so I pretty much had to buy CDs at my local music store (which was like 3-4 hours away). So I started listening to Crimson and Good Mourning, I never really liked any of their old stuff. It wasn't until they released Agony & Irony I fell in love with them, and they have been one of the most important bands in my life since.

I can never remember which I heard first, but it was either “Take Lots With Alcohol” and “Radio” on the Warped 2002 Live DVD, or “Jaked On Green Beers” on the first Atticus compilation. Those got me interested, then I met another guy at school who was obsessed with them and he showed me their back catalog and the Halloween at the Metro DVD. Looking back, it seems crazy that I met another Trio fan, because we both went to a tiny school in rural Arkansas. Alas, I was meant to be a Trio fan.

  8. For me it was either We've Had Enough or All On Black is what got me into them. I remember it just like yesterday when I bought Good Mourning at some tent at Warped Tour in 2003. But my true love ultimately came when I moved to PA right before 9th grade and this kid who I met and who actually is still my best friend was a massive Trio fan. Everything was just ment to be.

  10. The first song I heard by them was "Crawl" from the Another Year On The Streets compilation by Vagrant Records back when I was in high school. That comp introduced me to a few Vagrant bands I'd never heard before that I ended up falling in love with and still listen to almost daily. Alkaline Trio, The Anniversary, The Get Up Kids, Saves The Day...

Radio for me. A senior on my cross country team who introduced me to them took me to see them back in 2001 at some basement show and then we went to the Metro show on Halloween. Changed my life forever.

Didn’t really get that in Infirmary at the time. Good Mourning igniting my everlastlasting love though.

It's interesting hearing everyones journey with this band.

Compilations were huge for me in the late 90's and early 2000's. Asian Man Records comps were how I first discovered Trio. I don't remember which was my first though. I subsequently bought Maybe I'll Catch Fire and downloaded Goddamnit and S/T off of Napster or Limewire. I thought S/T was just a regular album of theirs and it was my favorite. I got my first electric guitar around this time so their songs were among the first I learned. From Here to Infirmary was my favorite album for a time when it came out. My first band covered songs from it. I loved the HWM split, Jaked on Green Beers and the stuff the year after.

I did not like Good Mourning when it came out. I hated Matt's voice, it was so different than the singer I was so used to. Many of the songs seemed darker and more gothic like Alkaline Trio via Sing the Sorrow. Even in the marketing on this and Crimson. I wasn't fond of the production bells (literally) and whistles. I sort of fell out of love with the band's current material.

Good Mourning being heralded as their masterpiece was baffling to me for a long time. I know a lot of people on here got into the band via that record, but it sort of got me out of the band. I appreciate it a lot more now, of course. I know it's Dan's favorite album and how much struggling through it was a personal turning point for Matt.

My Shame is True/Broken Wing really got me into the band again having completely slept on A&I and This Addiction. Definitely have a greater appreciation for all of their stuff now.

FUCKIN SAVAGES IN THAT FUCKIN BOX Prestigious

First time I saw Trio was opening for NFG, Saves The Day and Face To Face at the Worcester Palladium in 2000 (forever my favorite lineup) and I wasn't too into them at that time. Didn't think they were bad. Lot less energetic than what was popular with all the pop punk at that time. My friend Hurley (yes real first name lol) who got me into Face To Face and blink wasn't that into them, thought they were pretty average. Didn't give them another look at that time.

Saw them the next year when they opened for Sum 41 and blink also at the Palladium (such a small venue for blink, in May right before TOYPAJ dropped) got a little more into them that time. Hauled off and bought Infirmary sometime soon after that. Back when you couldn't always hear a cd before you bought it haha. Listened to Stupid Kid far too many times that day. And that was the first time I got MY friend into a band from the genre haha. Bought the self titled comp soon after that and then worked backwards. Was fully into them after that. Will always be my favorite band pretty easily.

Let's hold our breath until we disappear

I was 11 years old and heard We’ve Had Enough on the radio in Chicago in 2003. We got home, but I waited in the car to hear the song finish because I was so into it. The DJ said it was Alkaline Trio, so I started looking them up right away.

I then went and bought Good Mourning on its release day at Best Buy a couple weeks later. Also got to see them open for Sum 41 at Milwaukee Summerfest that year. I started buying their older albums and have been a massive fan ever since.

Didn't Matt have a throat surgery just before recording the vocals for GM? His voice fits the theme of the record IMO. I believe it was meant to be.

Around 2005, I was eating up everything punk rock I could get at my local library as my parents didn't police my rentals and the selection was pretty good. Got From Here to Infirmary and couldn't stop listening, loved the catchy melodies and dark lyrics. Went back and got Maybe I'll Catch Fire and Goddammit the next week.

A few weeks later, I convinced my dad to let me buy them at the local Best Buy. Listened to those CD's nonstop for years.

    Matt on Good Mourning:

He talks about acid reflux and some problems like that too. His voice fitting the theme is a good take. I really enjoy the album now.

Man, there were some awesome tours back then. I remember seeing NFG, Less Than Jake, Anti-Flag and Teen Idols around that time. I would have loved to see Face to Face touring on Reactionary.

A buddy of mine who was into pop punk and punk and ska and etc. gave me a CD with I Lied My Face Off and Goodbye Forever on it because I was in 8th grade and "sad" because my crush didn't like me back lol. At the time, I knew nothing about the band so I just figured the songs were from two different times in the band's career and they must have switched singers at some point and that's why two different people were singing the song.

Flash forward to October of 2003, me and my first girlfriend break up. I was sad. I remember thinking I needed sad songs, and thinknig "hey, that band Alkaline Trio seemed like they make that type of music"....I used the internet to figure out they had released an album that previous spring, so I bought it...it was Good Mourning and holy shit was it perfect. And yeah Matt's voice was perfect for the entire mood of the album.

Also it's a very winter album for me and it's kind of crazy to me that it was released in May lol. Doesn't feel like a spring/summer album at all.
