Damn, Turnover was my least favorite of the year. It's always interesting to see not just different opinions, but polar opposite ones. But it's also interesting my favorite was still so close to it.

Yeah I think Turnover did a good job with it. Was surprised by how much I enjoyed.

We reach for the longest shadow

I totally get why people don't like it. What did you enjoy about PV? For me, this dropped my least favorite things about PV. That one still had a pop punk at times, especially the lyrics, and I feel that is all the way gone on this one. It's also brighter, and more introspective instead of angry, which I can relate to more in this phase of my life. (mid 20s, married, decent job, etc.)

I really liked the atmosphere and lyrics on Peripheral Vision. My biggest issue with it is the same as my biggest one with Good Nature though. Drums are very repetitive. I thought it was whatever for the one album. But having two albums like that I was kinda like "ehh...". I think I'd enjoy Turnover a lot more if they had a more diverse drummer. I do really like Peripheral Vision when I'm in the right mood though.

I get that. When the drums are good on a record, it can really elevate it for me (PBTT) but when they are repetitive, it doesn't bother me much, especially if everything else is sounding pretty fresh.

love the second verse of Never Tell A Soul its so smooth and groovy

    obliterate all prior things

"I siphon from you in ways I'm not" is such a great line. Never Tell a Soul probably should have been the second single instead of Rites, but from what others have said Rites really slaps live and it is a perfect song to compliment a Thrice tour. This album has anthony's best lyrics overall for certain though, i think most of us can agree. all his stuff has its ups and downs but the amulet still feels so mature and polished and fresh.

also hoping for the best for you, man

brings up a question i've had though: in rough times, what is it about music exactly that helps you guys? the solace of commiseration? a distraction? actual guidance? simple catharsis/pressure relief? for me its probably a mix of distraction and catharsis

Not feeling so alone in this world. I've been through a lot of the same shit Anthony has and our minds seem to function very similarly

It's something to get immersed in that demands personal interaction. It's inherently introspective but as a result of that introspection you can interact with others who have heard the same thing and interpreted it different ways which adds new depth.

I really want a stripped down electronic drum EP from these dudes.
Really changes the sound of some of these songs. Especially when Brendan throws some extra noodling in there
