Bought it last night and started getting it set up. The registration process was giving me a lot of trouble though so I didn’t get a chance to actually do anything. Also it’s pretty annoying how the game client has to be open and the PS4 on for it to download the game/patches and stuff. Excited to hopefully start it tonight though!

 

Yeah the other day I had a 10 min update (I hadn't played for months) and I was just sitting there like "I wish I could start something else while I'm waiting" hahahaha

 

Yeah my update was like 200 minutes or something which makes sense I guess because it had to download the whole game so I just called it a night and went to bed hahah

 

well, i am hooked. lol.

 

Last night I unlocked diving and now yup I'm hooked again too

 

i bailed on my first character and put a little more thought into the new one. am now an elezen/duskwight

 

What class? Still pugilist?


Also what server dammit

 

Well now that I'm getting the house at the end of January I'll probably try and start up in February playing this

i have a question re: ffxiv

how do you all map your controls? my only gripe is the attempt to have the touchpad emulate a mouse, i feel as though anytime i hover over something to select it, it winds up selecting some other window whether i press the touch pad or hit X. it's pretty frustrating but it has to be an issue on my end where i'm not understanding.

But basically I never use the touchpad part whatsoever. If you push it in, you can move to a different part of the menu with your cursor if you want to use it (such as the chat window)

Honestly though what I'd advise is having a cheap keyboard plugged into the USB spot of your PS4. Any typing will go into your chat window and you can push "Enter" to send and go back to regular playing. Pairing that with using the basic controller functions for moving/combat/etc makes it all extremely smooth.

The only time I ever use the touchpad is to switch what chat I'm in (party/free company/etc). I wouldn't use the touchpad to select things in-game

 

Crappppp I gotta get on FFXIV now too. I'm in Dustins realm too. @Fucking Dustin I bought the version for computer a couple years ago, I have no idea what the key number or whatever to it is. Am I fucked? How much is it for ps4?

 

It's not too pricey for PS4. I don't remember the actual price but there MAY be a way to recover that info depending on where you bought it for PC? Did you buy it through steam or from SE?

 

I'm almost positive from SE

 

It may be in your email then (the code for the game itself). I'm sure there are some account recovery options if you don't have your password

 

see my issue is a little different and i'm totally blowing verbalizing it. so, say i need to zoom in on the minimap. i drag my finger over on the touchpad and hover over the "+". it makes the finger icon which tells me it's selected. but then i press X and it shoots my cursor over to the last window i was in. or if i'm not in a window it'll shoot over to my Current Quest thing in the top left. i can't figure it out and i'm sure it's something embarrassingly simple

 

To add on to this: pushing up/down lets you switch between targeting party members, and pushing X targets the nearest enemy in your view, so that can be used in lieu of trying to click on an enemy

Ahh I gotcha, so for the minimap what I'd advise is pushing Square. This will bring up a larger view of your minimap and there are controls listed to navigate that.

If you want to zoom the minimap itself, you can push in the touchpad until the minimap itself is selected, and then move your cursor (d-pad) to select what minimap function you want to use. Then you can use X to use that function.

Each time you push the touchpad button, the cursor moves to a different area of your screen (chat window, minimap, quest list, etc) and you can do functions within that area

I could explain it way better by showing haha but I hope that helps

Also if you need any help with Thaumaturge combat and getting your numbers high/having kickass rotations let me know. Thaumaturge/Black Mage was one of my first classes so I'm pretty good at it, and my best friend mains Black Mage and is phenomenal at it so I've got that shit down pretty well
