I get (almost) all my games from Gamefly so I never have them long enough for DLC, but that sounds great.

There is some pretty credible evidence for this...the studio that did the Mo-Cap for Black Tusk (The Coalition) new IP before Gears had a post about working on a new IP with them for 2018 that was quickly deleted.

 

Also worth noting, that the Coalition switched gears (puns!) from their heist FPS to Gears and within 1 year shipped the Gears 1 remaster and shipped Gears 4 the following year. Pretty impressive I'd say. Gears 4 in two years is pretty great alone.

The studio has some serious chops and I could see Phil Spencer letting them try something else while also working on Gears 5.

 

But Perfect Dark isn't a new IP

 

The studio was specifically built to exclusively make Gears, much like 343. Hence the in-universe names. There are a lot of articles and interviews about this.

 

plans can change, though. they've proven their value and ability to deliver, so it's not like there's a stone tablet somewhere that says Microsoft can't adjust how they use their strongest assets

 

True, but I highly doubt it. Gears is too valuable. If anything I would guess they'd spin out a couple of people to work on something with another studio.

 

however i'm skeptical about a Perfect Dark reboot at all. who would that really attract?

 

That's a huge flaw in the rumor. There's no way PD would do better than Gears, plus Gears has a legit esports scene. Gotta keep the train going. The have been working on Gears 5 since before Gears 4 shipped. The whole point of the studio is to work exclusively on the new Gears trilogy that started with 4.

 

That being said they might have started another team under the same brand, like E.A. did with Bioware. That would be weird given that the name is in-universe, but yeah. Still wouldn't be the actual Gears team.

 

Technically not true, the studio was built and working on a new IP when MS moved them to Gears. I know it's likely this isn't true, but there is some possibility to this.

 

Correct me if I’m wrong but gears 4 didn’t do too well.

I think a new IP that’s a good and not an antiquated cover shooter is a much better investment for ms.

 

MS invest in new IPs? Gearzalo. Combine it all.

 

Bought a TV last night so I could finally play video games after like a 2 year hiatus, heh. Also bought Horizon and Overwatch. Overwatch is a blast so far, and Horizon is also realllllly fucking awesome.

 

Just pre ordered Dragon Ball FighterZ. I was iffy about ordering through the Playstation Network because it says the expected playable date is June (instead of January) so I opted to order through a store. haha.

Also - PSA: if you pre-order from Best Buy, you get a a free Pop figure of Future Trunks. That's a nice touch.

 

No, technically that was Black Tusk or whatever their name was. They then changed the name and hired extra people (including ex Epic people) and so on, specifically to become the Gears studio. So, what used to be Black Tusk was really a building block that was used to build the Gears studio.

 

Not as well as 1-3, but from what I heard they expected that. It still did well plus it has a very stable multiplayer base. I just got enhanced too. Gears 5 has definitely been in active development since Gears 4 shipped. The series is way too essential for Microsoft still. It is also still the best third person shooter around.

So, if anything, a new team under the same brand was formed to work on a new IP (or Perfect Dark for that matter). Or Gears 5 is far enough along for part of the team to work in something else (though Gears 6 still has to be made to finish the trilogy), but I doubt that given that Halo 6 is likely to release first.

 

FREEKSTYLE FOREVER

 

I love Witcher 3, but holy shit, I'm over 100 hours into it (I'm honestly not sure how much of that, or any Steam game's "time played," is just me leaving it open while I go eat and do other stuff and forget) and only like halfway through the story? Maybe I shouldn't have focused too much on side quests so early on, I feel so drained on it. I'm at a place-of-no-return part in the story and I feel like the next part is going to be big, so I'm super excited, but it just feels so daunting. Every time I'm about to open up the game again, I'm like ehhh maybe just a couple rounds of Overwatch instead. I think I need to finish a smaller game or two first before moving on. So, I'm installing Inside, finally.

 

Finally finished Horizon today and it's probably one of my favorite games of all time. Absolutely flawless story imo though I wasn't really crazy about the sequel hook after the credits, extremely fun and rewarding combat, gorgeous visuals, and a fantastic protagonist. So happy with this game

 

Best thing about the story is they came up with the concept of the machines in a post-apocalyptic earth first and then worked backwards.

 

When I first started the game I didn't realize that they already talked openly about the fact that the game takes place in the far future and I thought I was a genius for figuring out the "twist" that humanity already went extinct so fast lol (spoilers just in case)

 

Got a PS4 a few weeks ago and have played nothing lol. I suck.

 

This is kind of an old post, but did you ever play The Witness? I wouldn’t say it’s exactly mindless, far from it even, but if you like puzzle games it can be fun to dick around in if have twenty minutes to kill or something like that.
