If reality is completely subjective to the whim of each person's emotions, what are we even discussing?

  2. The reality of people's emotions. {This is not rocket science.}

  3. "Whim"? We're discussing your apparent need to trivialize experiences you don't share or agree with, it would seem. It's very condescending, and entirely unappreciated for what it's worth.

Like it or not, outside of legal contexts abuse and trauma aren't objective. It is physically impossible for them to be, and illogical to expect that or to operate as though they are. In the same way that not every soldier leaves the battle zone with PTSD, not everyone who experiences abuse will be traumatized by it. It is, therefore, subjective and situational. Sorry if that makes you uncomfortable.

This is about personal decisions re: what kind of behavior you will or will not support. That is inherently subjective. Again, you can feel how you feel about it: but that doesn't make your feelings de facto "correct" because you choose to rely on archaic definitions in a rapidly changing social sphere.

    That's a fair answer.

Semantic absolutism is often (unwittingly or otherwise) the cudgel of choice to diminish the experience of others.

So long as we understand the concepts being conveyed, the label attached is inconsequential.

    Language will adapt.

the thread keeps going, he's basically said that he's said some bad shit in the past and he's doing what he can to change

so great to see this new wave changing up their mindsets. now i just hope they show that in their tours

Makeout sucks so bad. Glad other bands in their realm of music are calling them out.

hey i tweeted at him about that and he responded. don't think there's ever an excuse including "it just didn't pan out" to not include women but i'll gain a ton of respect for them if this actually happens and there's a very obvious change in their tours going forward

this matters more for the fans of real friends than it does for makeout in general. this tweet won't change anything. it's more important for dan to help inform his fans and teach them how to be better, more inclusive people. he's using his platform for good, and i really really respect that.

I really like Dan, when I met him a while back he had a chat with me about a few things going on in the scene.

I'm glad to see he is trying to help educate others, and maybe it will help make the MAKEOUT a better band who can move on from their current shitty attitude and lyrics.

The motion cites “the well being of the victim” as a reason for dropping the charges without prejudice, meaning the four men could be prosecuted in the future.

    what the fuck

    a literal succubitch

I'm under the impression they've only been dropped because the victim couldn't deal with the trauma and stress of going through the legal process and facing these men constantly for who knows how much longer. Sigh. All too common in rape prosecution if I'm not mistaken.

^That, and the tone of response from the metal community about this has been perplexing at best (People being oddly overjoyed that their metal heroes aren't "malicious rapists") to downright mysognistic, slut-shaming commentary at worst (Just look for Tommy Vext's comments about this. Consider it a trigger warning if you scope them out. Not linking it here because dude doesn't deserve the fucking attention). I've lost respect for a lot of people in the metal scene who I held in some regard as a result of this.

yup. this is why when people are like "well if it's true why didn't they go to the police!!!" i'm just dumbfounded. our legal establishment does not protect rape victims. it doesn't help, especially if you aren't well off.

yeah the conversations I have read on fb over this situation is sickening and eyeroll-worthy to say the least.

thefakesoundofprogress by lostprophets is my NUMBER ONE favorite record of all time, and Ian Watkins is a terrible human being. I feel like once you get past the shittyness of a musician, you're fine and you're not horrible for listening to it. I also wanna add Suicide Silence is one of my favorite bands (as you can see in my profile picture currently) and I was unaware of the allegations towards Eddie (I'm more of a Mitch guy, personally) but I think it's the rock-star mentality of saying "hey, I can do what I want. I'm rich and handsome!"
