I don't agree with UCF calling themselves national champions. That is factually incorrect. I think they should celebrate, but this feels like it's in the realm of fake news and not accepting reality.

Yeah, there's no way they can argue it. However, precedent allows it and the system created it so if the NCAA has a problem there's a real simple fix haha

I also didn't realize how many schools have done this before. I still think it's stupid. Love the system when it benefits you, ignore when it does not. Seems like our white house administration.

  8. I’m not sure they’re completely serious. Lebatard decalred them national champs in his “personal record book” and the show is giving them a trophy. He had the coach and Griffin on the show to talk about it.

Except this system actively worked against them haha.

Still wish Auburn claimed a part of 2004.

Well, that's always going to be the case because people wanted to move away from computers and have people pick the games. And most people are going to perceive the power five schools more favorably than a school that's not.

Yes but every metric used to argue for any team can be used for UCF.

Granted, I believe all those metrics to be false. But again, if I'm going off what everyone else does...

People wanted a conference champion. People think wins are all that matters. People say they like an underdog. Etc....etc...

That article was absolutely using it as an argument...

If that one NCAA recognized computer model keeps them at #1 then they have a solid claim based on precedence. I say let it happen. It bolsters the movement for 8 teams faster--which would've solved all of this in the first place.

I think an 8 team playoff would have made things worse, unless you give the non-Power 5 schools an auto berth. UCF is still out, and they also don’t beat #7 Auburn, who is probably in with 3 losses

    1. Clemson
    8. UCF

    4. Alabama
    5. Ohio State

    2. Oklahoma
    7. USC

    3. Georgia
    6. Wisconsin

Pretty sure the five P5, best of the rest, two at large model for 8 would've looked like this. A 1-loss Wisconsin would've kept 3-loss Auburn out, I'm pretty confident.

  17. Making it a 4-team playoff when you have 5 “power conferences” was a bad idea from the start.

Let UCF just have some fuckin' fun. Who gives a shit about 'claimed' national titles. It's a time for UCF to brag and have a good time and it hurts literally zero people.

  20. The UCF AD had a great interview on Lebatard yesterday btw. He wasn’t outraged but made a lot of great points for his team.

Everyone gets on P5 teams that schedule cupcakes in the beginning of the season, but that's basically what UCF had for every game. They went undefeated, I give them a ton of credit, and think that it's a great step for their program and teams outside the Power 5. The next step is to achieve success against a legitimate schedule.

If you want to be considered for the playoffs, then don't play a schedule with teams like Temple, UConn and Austin Peay. Granted, the teams in your conference can limit your ability to do that, but UCF played/scheduled 5 (I think) OOC games this season. They could have scheduled teams of better quality than FIU. The NCAA, whether it's the BCS era, or the playoff era, has been consistent in their adjudication of this mentality. They've always said that if you want to be taken seriously, win against a serious schedule.

And again, expanding the playoffs - at least in this instance - would not have made a difference. If it's 8 teams, UCF is still out. If it's 10 teams, UCF is still out. If you believe that UCF should be in the playoff, the issue isn't with the number of teams included, it's in the evaluation/rankings.

As for the national title, let them claim it. It's fun, definitely draws more positive attention to the program, gets articles written about them. It's not like anyone is going to look back in the history books and see

2017 National Champs University of Georgia*

*and University of Central Florida (kind of)

  22. Their schedule is definitely harder than you’re making it out to be. They played good teams.

  23. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure they beat more bowl teams this season than Bama.

I see Memphis and USF. Tell me what I'm missing.

    The rivalry is back on

Alabama: FSU, Miss St, LSU, TAMU, Colorado St, Fresno St

UCF: Navy, FIU, Memphis (x2), USF, SMU

I think it’s even unless I’m missing someone
