Note to self has become a close second favorite to just another face

i don't think i will ever listen to the first half of this album again but the second half is way better than i thought it was gonna be.

Mass feels very Fallow era Weakerthans. Can see why people like this song a lot

I didn't hate this. I think the dude who sang on the back half is way better than the other one, but the back definitely goes by too quickly. Better than I expected

I just can't imagine not revisiting the first half of this. I think "What If..." is actually grating, pretty easily my least favorite track

"Mass" has grown on me a ton

It's by far their best, but that's not saying much. The two singles and Mass are three tracks that are really worth taking away from this album. I will say though, that the album does tell a cohesive story even with the album being split behind vocalists, which is pretty neat.

I just gave this a proper listen with some nice headphones and lyrics, and I love this album. Lyrically it's a huge progression from YGMIA, and musically it sounds great. I think the two standouts for me right now are Hiding and Note To Self. It feels like they've really grown into themselves as a band.

So far this album seems to be super polarizing, especially with the half people prefer. I wonder how people would like the album if the songs were mixed normally?

Honestly, I think I would like it better, because there wouldn't be such a distinct shift and I wouldn't even think about comparing Brendan's songs to Jake's.

I'm not sure the album would flow as good if the songs were mixed up because their songs have such a different vibe. Hiding does a good job of acting as the "closer" on Jake's half.

Does anyone know if Cam Boucher sings in the beginning of Coding These To Lukens? It sounds a lot like him. Honestly the whole song kind of reminds me of Forgettable by Sorority Noise in a way.

i thought there was a guest spot too but i couldn't put my finger on it.

  16. Each half is about a pretty distinct separate topic, so I think that would mess with the album flow in a huge way.

I think the only songs I really care about on this are "Hiding," "Just Another Face" and "Wedding Singer." I think I probably was more into You're Gonna Miss It at first, but I haven't listened to that record in a year probably. Most of the songs on the back half feel like they end right when they're getting going.

That's how I'm feeling about Bren's half too. Apple Cider and Just Another Face are the only two that feel like "complete" songs to me.

as a super casual listener, i love the short songs. i could see how a fan would be disappointed in the brevity of it though.

Finally giving this a first listen. Only a few songs in, it's definitely better so far than their other albums, but there's nothing that's really caught my ear.

I also feel like the vocals might be a little buried, but it could just be the leak quality.

I enjoyed the record. I feel like it could be something I come back to later in the year when all of the hype of a lot of the new music we are getting has settled down. Right now I'm obsessed with Radiohead and I am too excited about Hotelier, Thrice and Saosin, to really get into this. I do think it will be something I come back to at some point though..

also am I the only one who hears The Early November's "The Mechanic" vibes on this?

So I guess Brendan's the guy whose vocals I don't like at all. Did not enjoy that half. I also agree with everyone who's been saying those songs feel pretty half baked.

I was actually surprised with how much better he sounded than on their old stuff. Actually thought he was pretty decent

Yeah I really enjoyed the first half and was really looking forward to Bren's songs, but those were the only two that really hit me so far.

For those who think Brendan's songs sound half-baked, well, he did spew out the lyrics as he was recording / basically didn't write anything prior to their studio time so...
