Had no idea about Hundredth’s album, I’m digging this so far on a first listen.

This is so sick, the end part reminds me of From Ashes Rise

I def think Hundredth is better doing the gaze thing too, reminds me of a heavier Hum

I got that vibe too. They're nothing amazing but there's definitely potential there. It'll be interesting to see how long this wave of nu-shoegaze lasts and which bands stick to that sound and which ones abandon it once it's not really a "thing" anymore.

It's a really boring ambient album

 

And thrice woven is a really boring black metal album

 

Wolves has never floored me. I feel like Thrice Woven isnt really any worse or more boring than their other stuff for me. Theyre a good band.

 

Blut Aus Nord put out as unhinged an album as ever. Thats top of my short heavy list this year.

Man, that Tchornobog album is such a beast. I definitely need more time with it.

I haven't narrowed my list down (oh so close). I'm not really a black metal guy but Havukruunu, Aosoth, Malokarpatan, and White Death have all released good albums this year. It was a great year for trad as well, with Chevalier, Lunar Shadow, Legionnaire, and Satan's Hallow all releasing stuff.

As far as death, I could seriously make a list with just death metal albums. This year was incredible but my favs are Extremity, Necrot, Immolation, Acephalix, Undergang, and Degial. But there are tons of others (Ascended Dead, Tomb Mold, Contaminated, Entrails, Rude, etc). It was an incredible year for the genre.

A few others that stood out but are a mix of different genres: Spectral Voice (death/doom), Condor (black/thrash), Hellripper (black/speed), Artificial Brain (tech death), and Suffering Hour (death/black).

Oh yeah and POWER TRIP duh

 

Just posted some stuff in the other thread but since we're getting close, I've finally narrowed my favs of the year to a shortlist:
