I'm playing DQ9 for the first time right now! I think I'm on the second to last dungeon. I really need to finish it...

FFX is my personal favorite, I’m very emotionally attached to that game.

    I actually haven't played X. I stopped at IX :-|

  5. I'm deep into a IX replay. I've started replays here and there through the years, but this will be the first time I finish it since grade school. It's still tremendous so far. The slowdown/sorta reset after the big Kuja/Brahne/Iifa Tree event is so bold and brilliant. It's about to get pretty weird with Kuja stuff and Garland just showed up for the first time recently. Looking forward to seeing how the last act or two of the game hold up, as I don't remember the back half of the game as sharply.

I remember getting FFX for my 12th birthday. Everyone was invited over, family & friends, but I locked myself in my room. I remember watching the opening scene with Sin so many times because I kept getting interrupted and wanted to restart so I didn't miss anything.

FFX is my all-time favourite FF game and overall game. The graphics were ahead of its time but it was the story that got me. The battle system was complex as was the levelling system. I remember buying FF XII when it came out and being disappointed. Mainly as I was expecting another FFX.

This was the downfall for me, once MMOs were introduced. I thought FFXV would have been the game that brought my faith back however after completed it, I felt underwhelmed and thinking "is that it?".

It was a step in the right direction though and hopefully the next iteration is a full upgrade.

TL;DR: Long Live Final Fantasy X.

Final Fantasy XIV is on sale and I may get it. I Tried it before but this was before the changes and DLC. Is it worth it now or just wait for XVI? I finished 7, 10 and 15 recently and loved them. 10 is one of my favourite games of all time.

So I finally finished FFXV last night. I wound up liking it a fair bit, although it definitely only reaches the middle of the series for me in terms of ranking.

    6-12-10-4-7-9-15-8-5-13-3-2-1

EDIT: Wow it literally is right in the middle for me haha

i am enjoying the bit i played of XIV. the MMO combat system actually fits pretty well in place of turn-based, as it is more or less the same sort of pacing

    is it ranking time

    it's ranking time

    6>9>7>12>4>10>15>8>5>3>1>2

    yeah i think that's it

BONUS: tactics is better than them all but 6

i liked 15 a lot but it's incredibly clear that that game was still rushed despite billions of years in some sort of development, and even with the changes they've been pushing out it still seems like it's not in the state they imagined that game to be in. still very enjoyable though.

Yeah I mean the bottleneck that happens when you leave for Altissia is pretty clearly the result of them just trying to finish the game by any means necessary. Up to that point, all the open world stuff is great and I do like the combat system a lot. Plus it's visually stunning. But the way the content just kind of hurries you along to the conclusion is the most clear indication that they were trying to rush something finished out the door by the end.

yep, both the structure of the second half compared to the first and the often rushed plot/story developments/character motivations, etc (though i believe they've fixed some of this since i've played it at launch?), just kind of make it feel like a haphazardly put together game. i do like the open world a lot and it feels a lot more "final fantasy" than i thought it would after some of prerelease coverage made it seem like, it mostly just ended up being mildly disappointing as a mainline final fantasy even if the content that's there is better than the previous big single player game (which, i totally forgot 13 on my list and maybe there's a reason for that).

I stopped playing it before they added in the extra story stuff, so I don't know what was originally there vs. what wasn't, but it still felt kind of weird at times. Like, some things felt disconnected and could have used more elaboration. Also, they apparently made Zegnautus Keep less difficult than it was initially but it was still a slog and a half to get through. Not challenging, just took forever.

It was a fine game that had flashes of brilliance thrown in there. I'm really hoping that with someone other than Nomura directing XVI we get a more fully-realized version of the open world stuff, with a bigger map and a conclusion that doesn't forsake what made the earlier portions of the game so much fun.

I know my class is a Pugilist but idk what my race is called: whatever the furry is lol. that may be my one gripe of the game, the default models for the races made them all pretty unappealing

hell, it's not even nomura's fault, by all accounts huge swaths of nomura's game were scrapped when tabata took over (which of course is part of the problem, trying to piece together remnants of nomura's versus 13 and tabata's ideas for 15). i don't even know who really still works at square anymore - i guess tabata can take another swing but his track record isn't the best in the world (in particular i don't care for type-0 at all). matsuno's working with square again with FFXIV and he's the obvious dream pick but i can't see him committing to a huge scale project like that and seems content to work in the mobile space instead.

anyway, i doubt we see FFXVI for a looooong time anyway since they're still planning more FFXV dlc.
