Does she currently play Claws In Your Back live? I'm wondering if she hits those last notes, which absolutely tear me apart each time I listen to the album!

Yes! ;D well, I had been absolutely sure she CAN hit them anyway, but there's probably just one good recording of the song on youtube, and she just chose to sing it a bit differently... Waiting for some new videos then.

Last night was my second time seeing her live. She sounded amazing but she looked exhausted from this tour. Wasn't this her first headlining tour?

While it can't be overstated how incredible Julien was last night, four things:

    1. She looked exhausted and even on the verge of tears at one point, but not because of the songs themselves, I think. She mentioned messing up (performance wise) in front of everyone a couple times during the show. I feel bad because it looked like it was getting to her.
    2. Live looping guitar is really hard, but she does it really, really well.
    3. there's a certain level of vulnerability she has with her performances that really stands out from other performers I've seen. It felt like she was entirely exposed, but in a way that was so relatable and inspiring.
    4. The addition of the violin player on some of her songs was a really nice touch.

Also: people who get pissed off about someone (who's not even tall or taller than them) getting in front of them in the crowd at a show can go fuck themselves. This dude almost started a fight with me over that, which is a nothing argument, likely to impress his girlfriend.

Anywho. Fantastic show, nonetheless. Adam Torres and Half Waif were also stunning.

Ohh! Ok ;D I'll be around whenever you get it ;D ...I'm also waiting for that standard vinyl of TOTL, wanted it for christmas as a gift to myself haha, but they made some kind of a mistake with the amount of available copies in my country and I guess I'll get it a bit later.

It just hit me like a truck what the "it" she's referring to in this line is.

"I would play with different bands around town, and I got booked at this coffee shop in Memphis called Otherlands. I was so excited and nervous, so I just went and played four original songs, wearing a Mastodon shirt and was four-and-a-half feet tall."

this is amazing and a hilarious mental image haha

Double post but this part is great too: "She had one obstacle remaining: she had to come out to her church. As she had grown to love her local Christian community, as well as playing guitar in her church's worship band, a rejection would represent nothing short of profound loss. Tracking down her church's music leader, she readied her revelation. "I was like 'I've got to tell you something,' and I was sweating profusely, and she was like, 'What's going on? Did someone die?' and I was like, 'I'm gay.' And she was like, 'So?' That was her literal response. I was like, 'If I had known that people were going to respond this way I would have come out five years ago.'"

    Outstanding.

Every time she mentions the Memphis music scene in an interview I get jealous. It really sounds like it's something else.

I heard a long interview (probably here somewhere) where she was compared Memphis to cities like Nashville and Atlanta. She said there's so many commodities in those cities, which is good, but people become cliquish and stick to their scenes. Whereas Memphis doesn't have as much, so everyone from every scene is forced to work together. I find that fascinating and so awesome. Being from Atlanta, I can attest to how many different scenes there are here and they rarely converge. I mean, there's not really a reason to, but I can see how a smaller music scene in general would contribute to a healthier overarching community.

Did anyone end up getting the purple and orange splatter that would like to trade for my copy of the European pressing? Picked it up a couple of weeks ago at her show in Nashville and I got one of the last 4 copies.

Claws In Your Back is still one of the best songs of the year. No contest. Absolutely unreal.
