I've heard this idea being thrown around forever regarding new iOS and old phones, why now is it just getting a lot of attention? Did someone make some dumb claim about it today which prompted all the talk?

    !

I feel an IPhone has a realistic life of 2 years with all the new iOS upgrades. I had my 6 Plus for 2 and half years and i feel it did its job. It was time to upgrade...

  4. Because Apple explained why the underclock some devices to keep them from restarting when the battery gets old.

    my ipad mini is much slower since the last update, and has used 20GB/32GB. it also takes more than a few hours to fully charge. i want to upgrade but i don't want to throw around $400 rn. ;-;

iOS11 drains the battery on my 6S+ like crazy, whilst I had no problems pre-11. Going to the Genius Bar on the weekend to try and see if there’s anything they can do.

  9. My Series 0 seems to be getting worse battery life lately too. Not quite as bad as yours, but maybe once a week I’ll get the low power mode notification around 7:30 PM, which had never happened before this month.

CarPlay is so awful. I thought it would get better when I bought a X but it still sucks so much. It constantly either never loads my phone, says it isn’t compatible, or just kicks it out randomly (as if I disconnected it when I didn’t).

    CarPlay works perfectly for me.

I was having issues with my Apple TV where it would randomly shut off and go into a constant cycle of re-booting, attempting to re-start, and then re-booting again. I would end up just shutting it off the minute it shut down. I had done re-sets and unplugging to no avail. I had thought about swapping out power strips but never did so and after reading your post about your Mac, it motivated me to actually try it and it seems to have worked from what I can tell. So thanks indirectly for the help.

Let me know if it keeps up!

The strangest part of all of this, for me, is that everything else plugged into the problematic surge protector (lights, speakers, etc.) worked fine without interruption, and once the computer died, I would then try plugging it into different outlets and it didn't do a thing - the computer HAD to remain unplugged for ~1 hour. I still can't believe the surge protector ended up apparently being the issue, but I'm very happy that's all it was.

I switched from Safari to the new Firefox recently. It's not bad. I've used Safari for years now and the switch was surprisingly painless but I also don't really feel a need to choose one over the other at this point.

This is literally the same thing I had going on. I had my tv, Apple TV, harmony hub, gaming console, soundbar, and Christmas lights (for now) all going into the same strip. I had a few extra outlets open and I would switch the Apple TV between the open outlets or switch with other devices and it did not matter. I actually swapped to a more basic/straightforward power strip with fewer outlets. Like, one you could get at CVS for like $10 haha and it's doing the trick. Go figure.

Wait a second. So you know the arrow for the last app you were in that is at the top left corner? First of all, why does that exist on the X when we can swipe over to get to that app? And second, why the HELL does it push the time up to make it uneven with the signal/WiFi/battery on the right side??? That's going to bug me every time I see it now.

Yeah or a new battery according to that article. I guess the battery life on my phone is still good because it runs flawlessly and lasts a full day on one charge.

I just had the battery in my 6s replaced for that same reason. I had it done before knowing about the performance throttling, but I can absolutely confirm the thing is feeling snappier now than it was a few weeks ago on a 2 year old battery.

You might actually be able to get your battery replaced for free like I did. A few batches of the 6s were shipped with bad batteries. I never had any issues with mine, but mine still qualified.

Is it possible to get a free battery replacement through AppleCare?

If your battery performance is poor enough then yes. They actually just gave me a new 6 a couple years ago rather than change the battery

If I could just forget it

I actually did that a little over a year ago. Maybe I'll wait until I absolutely can't stand it before taking it in.

My AppleCare runs out in a few days... so I’m trying to get something sorted before it ends. Hopefully they can do something as my battery drops so quick.

Yeah, I went on like the last day of my applecare just in case they’d replace it and they did.
