Oh yeah it's god awful haha. It sounds so fake! I'm very particular and other than that album the biggest offenders for me are Jesse Cannon and Brian McTernan

    !!!!

I like the bands that TBS/Brand New influenced, I just never cared for the source.

My unpopular opinion is that I don't really have any unpopular opinions. There's 7 billion people on Earth - you share pretty much every opinion with millions of people.

Title Fight's The Last Thing You Forget compilation is better than their three albums

Disagree. But that's mostly a function of me being an old fart. I listened to those albums after joining AP. And then Deja blew up and it's all we talked about for 2 years.

Are we still talking TBS? Because I like all of their albums and don't really get why they're looked down on so much.

And it's not even nostalgia for me, because I didn't really listen to any of their music besides TAYF until 2010.

    Maybe an unpopular opinion.

Bold statement here, but I think "I Wish I Was Sober" by Frightened Rabbit might be the best song of the year.

    We'll revisit in December.

TBS is looked down upon besides that one (or maybe two) album?

I still spin and really enjoy WYWTB

WYWTB is definitely the one I listen to most now, but S/T and NA are really good too, HI was good. I just like them.

I can see the bridge reading that way but I don't think the rest of the song lends itself to that interpretation. But I dunno, I don't focus too much on lyrics I guess.

I loved that song so much until I actually listened closely to the lyrics and yeah, it is extremely creepy

I'm actually really pumped for their new record. I thought happiness is was great, including the b-sides.

It was cool to see Rubano and Fred look back on LN with fondness though. I do believe him and Adam are on good terms now?

  16. Same. The only records I don't revisit completely are New Again and S/T but those still have a ton of jams.

A big part of my issue with TBS and Brand New was how their lyrics were heavy on woman-shaming, making males out to be victims, violence against women, and overall misogyny. I know I pissed off some of you here but there might actually be women who didn't get assaulted and harassed if not for these bands.

This is very true and I respect that view a lot. It's actually a big reason why I never got into old Brand New, by the time I was willing to give it a shot and be more open minded I was also a bit more educated on those issues and, especially on YFW, it stuck out so much to me and made it feel uncomfortable to listen to. (Also just didn't enjoy the record, but I digress)

I totally get this, and definitely cringe at some of the stuff they wrote, however, Adam addressed this in an interview once.

He said something along the lines of "we actually stopped playing the ballad of sal because people found out who it was about and she called me told me the backlash she was getting. Once that happened, I apologized and realized the impact of that song." Obviously, paraphrasing, but I'm glad he addressed it.

I get what you're saying, but by the same token, how far can a girl go in a song about a guy that broke her heart? For every "hateful towards women" song TBS has, there's a song Adam wrote about a girl he genuinely enjoyed.

But to each his own. I get into TBS and while Louder Now, a lot of New Again, most of Self Titled is on the more meager side, the other half of the self titled and new again, tayf, wywb, happiness hits me exactly where i wanna be hit, or close enough. there's always that angst with tbs.

Late as hell, but the vast majority of my closest friendships have been, and still are, with people I have little music taste in common with. I didn't even know very many people I could go to shows of bands I like with until very recently, and while I kind of wish I had, it wasn't a huge loss. In a lot of cases my friends and I will share love for mostly mainstream artists, but if we go into more "niche" stuff we like we won't have anything in common. It'd PROBABLY be cool to have IRL friends I have very similar music tastes to, but that's rarely been the case for me so it's whatever.
