Genuine question: why the fuck does the average person have no sense of timing/rhythm?

I went with my girlfriend and 2 of her friends to a karaoke place last night, and these (completely sober) people were consistently off beat. Also when I took my vocal classes, 90% of the students would end lines too early and start them a beat or 2 late

 

It's likely because they're focusing on other things – singing the right words, with the right pitch, etc. – than on the rhythm itself.

My rhythm is pretty good, but I cannot for the life of me sing and play an instrument at the same time without going horribly off-track with one or the other. I think it's a related phenomenon.

Yep my first, never mind I FINALLY got it... I needed to move the trunk so the water would move the gear in the main room

 

I think someone brought this up before but there have been studies that show human perception is naturally hardwired to think ahead of a beat, which is why when you go to shows and people start clapping on their own they speed way up compared to the actual music
