I've had my 12" Macbook for about 2.5 years and love the shit out of it. It's perfect for what I need it for, which is mostly general web browsing and streaming video/music, etc.

So I guess the question comes of the lifespan of the Air, vs the entry Pro. Do I spend the extra $300 now, or do I ride with the Air for a few years, based on what I need it for and wait for the refresh a few years from now.

The size and portability of the 12" makes it ultra appealing, but the price being equal to the entry Pro seems like a dumb decision to make now.

I'm by no means a "Pro" user but I love the 2017 MBP I picked up. It's still incredibly thin and portable, I'll be using this for a while.

  4. I always choose the pro over the air because I need that Retina display

the Air display feels like my eyes are having sand paper rubbed over them

Do or do not, there is no try.

Anybody noticed the new mini player on the YouTube app? I’m really not liking it, the small screen that used be in its place could be easily swiped away - this new bar cannot.

(I know, Major first world problems.)

How are the Air Pods with water? The other day I was in the steam room at my gym and some guy walked in with them on. He was blasting music and hung out in there for at least 20 minutes.

I’m the same way with my stuff. Which is why I was a little taken aback when I saw the guy wearing his $150+ headphones into a room filled with, essential, water haha

I wear mine sometimes on a run and there have been a couple times where it started raining (not super heavy) while I was out there and so I left them in and they were fine. If it was a hard rain I would definitely remove them. I think the cold weather is something to watch out for, not necessarily the AirPods as much as the watch. The Nike running program lags quite a bit in cold weather. Luckily, I am not super concerned with having a wearable for every run or walk, but it's something to consider if you are deciding between an Apple Watch, Garmin, etc.

    Hey. Supporter

How are AirPods in general? Thinking of getting some since my earphones are on their last leg.

I ended up taking this into the Apple Store and the computer turned on instantly.

Went home, and within an hour, the issue returned.

I took it in a week later, and they held onto it and couldn't replicate the issue after 30 hours testing. When I picked it up, I swapped out the surge protector and also adjusted where various appliances were plugged in throughout my room. I'll never know for sure what fixed it, but the computer has been working since. Odd.

On an unrelated note, after the Equifax breach, I finally decided to take my security seriously, and thanks to Dashlane, I now have unique passwords for every single account and it's SO much less of a pain than I spent actual years imagining it would be. Highly recommend that service as it's literally changed how I do things and given me a confidence I didn't really know I needed until recently.

I also just subscribed to Backblaze, which seems to do the job.

    Any other suggestions?

They sound a tad better than EarPods, esp the bass response.
The whole Bluetooth and technology part of them is incredible.

Has anyone here updated to the latest iTunes (12.7.2.60)? Apple Music refuses to stream anything at all since updating. It just skips all the way down the track list. Downloaded stuff works fine.

Edit: Going into my account settings and reauthorizing my computer solved the problem. Weird.

  25. Apple Addresses Why Some iPhones With Older Batteries Are Benchmarking Slower
Panzarino’s piece is (unsurprisingly) a good, sober look at the story. Basically, Apple is being painted in a damned if they do, damned if they don’t corner. Prior to adding this feature to iOS last year, iPhones with older declining batteries were shutting down unexpectedly when taxed at peak performance. That’s obviously not good. So now, iPhones with older declining batteries are throttled, when necessary, to keep them running. But now Apple faces accusations that they’re deliberately slowing these devices down to convince people to buy new iPhones. The thing to keep in mind is that there is nothing Apple can do about the fact that lithium-ion batteries decline over time. One way or another, older much-used iPhones are going to suffer in some way. I think what Apple is doing here is a reasonable balance between trade-offs.
