I'm sure there's a site out there that compiles them. If not there should be one.

i thought this was chorus.FM?? Prestigious

hip hop is predominantly made by people who grew up poor or working class. if you grew up embarrassed by the holes in your clothes or whatever it makes sense that you'd boast about the wealth you created for yourself through your art

Does it? The idea of it makes sense to me, up until adulthood, and then it doesn't make sense to me anymore.

I grew up poor. When I do have money, I certainly don't boast about it. Nor do I let what I create revolve around it.

Perhaps that's what I don't understand, the boasting. You can only boast about your art for so long before the boasting becomes your art, and that's not art.

  17. I saw Muse, and the show was fantastic! I woke up feeling okay but I'm not sure how I'll be during the day. Hopefully it's passed!

If she is in your break room, she is probably old enough to be working there, in which case I'm assuming she's a woman.

You are correct in assuming I'm white. I'm not sure you realize it though but you're clarifying nothing for me here.

Hip hop is black youth culture, so that means that their poorness and subsequent wealth is more magnified than if they were white?

I don't think it's fair to say that's not art simply because you don't understand it. A lot of rap/hip hop culture isn't just about who has the most money/biggest crew/etc., it's about how you show it. To some that might just seem really superficial, but there are often some really deep-seeded socioeconomic and political issues that their "boasting" covers, some of which is subtext, and some of which is more blatantly stated.

Edit: That isn't to say that rap and hip hop are perfect and untouchable by critique, but that applies to literally every genre of music. Rap/hip hop get more negative attention because people don't like seeing wealthy black folks who don't "play by society's rules" or fit their standards of normal or good.

    That woman was sleeping.

I know not everyone cares much, but I would rather be careful.

I'm 26 and feel weird being called a man, but that's my issue I guess.
