It's lame in the same way M83's Junk was kind of lame in its attempt to be so 80's and cartoony. I don't mind the music, but the presentation is kitsch, so its lame.

I am not, personally, all that offended by it, nor do I care about it that much.

Album covers are, by and large, marketing collateral, and a lot of current marketing attempts to cash in on what's in the zeitgeist (just look at the slew of Super Bowl-related advertising that we're inundated with every year) so to me it's whatever.

Edit: Or Youth. I would start with the new one first since it's their best although I love all 3 of their records. One of my favorite bands.

 

I think I like this version better than the album version, and that's my favorite song on the album haha

If I had my druthers I would replace the album version with this one, though I do like the album version as well.

 

I'm listening to As You Please now. Some of my favorite songs on it are Control, Discrete Routine and Flowerchild for sure. What a great fucking record. @skurt their second album is super underrated/polarizing like Daisy was for BN but is just as good. On the record Heaviside, Yellow Love and Ring of Chain are my choice cuts. The song Ten is probably the only Citizen song in their entire discography that I would say is not very good but there's still a few good things about it.

LMK your thoughts after you listen. They should be right up your alley. Hopefully you'll like them. Their records are all pretty short so easy to go through all at once!

 

This is true. I enjoy album covers too much, and really enjoy when they enhance the music without distracting from it.

 

Sometimes you just know the quality you're going to get with the album cover though:
