I'm not sure if Cloakroom is heavy enough for this thread, but that and Darkest Hour were my favorite metal albums of the year. I loved the Mutoid Man & Fit For An Autopsy albums too. Been kind of behind on metal as a whole, though.

Also Chthe'ilist wrote this on their Facebook yesterday:

"Some news : The 2 songs we have recorded this year will not be for a split release. Instead, we will release a 7" with these two tracks next year. We will concentrate on releasing shorter releases in the meantime we are writing album 2, which could take years as it will take a more eclectic direction similar to our track titled "Tales of the Majora Mythos".

In other news, our guitarist and vocalist Phil T has joined Cosmic Atrophy and Funebrarum, 2nd guitarist Claude has released a crazy album with his other band Sutrah and our drummer Phil Boucher is releasing a new Décombres album and working on a new Incandescence release. Look out for our Funeral doom side projectAtramentus in the near future as well. That is all for now. Cheers."

I am so ready for LP2.

I don't know how these lists can have either pallbearer or elder, the albums were so equally awesome.

i'm almost ashamed to admit it at this point, but i still need to give elder a listen. the new pallbearer was good, but I thought foundations and sorrow were better. probably just my shifting tastes though.

New Pestilence track. Solid stuff but not super memorable on first listen which is par for the course with their later era stuff from what I remember.

I haven't listened to the Elder one that much lately, but my end of the year Spotify stats show me that I played it a lot lol

I hadn't ever heard Elder before this year, but Reflections made me a fan.

Found myself at the Hundredth show last night. I kind of overlooked them when they were a heavier act, but I actually enjoyed a lot of their new more "gaze-y" stuff.

Spotlights were the band that kinda drew me to the show. I'd previously heard a few tracks from them and liked what I heard so I was curious to catch their set. They were REALLY great. If you like Deftones or Alchemy Index era Thrice, check them out...

Silly as it may be I can’t help but feel like Hundreth’s change in sound feels...disingenuous(?). It just sort of feels like blatant trendhopping.

I don't know much about the band tbh, but if that's the case, I don't think it's really working for them. Show was empty last night.

About halfway through the set, Chadwick said "This is what an identity crisis looks like" so take that for what you will...

New hundredth bores me to death. I tried, i really did. When i tried watching them at warped this year i left after 2 songs. Afyer that tried to give the full album a listen made it about 3 songs and turned it off. Another band that now disapoints me. Agree trend hopping for sure. This could send me on rant but i won't start.

hundredth is 100% better as a gazecore band. they may not be anywhere the near the level of a band like Nothing or Whirr but as far as trend hopping goes i'd much rather everyone drench their guitars in reverb than keep churning out Rise Records-approved breakdowns.

It clearly is. And hearing him talk about it on the Jasta Show really made it sound like they’re just trying to score cool points.

And the problem isn’t that they made a gazecore album, the problem is they didn’t make a good gazecore album.

I don't know shit about "gazecore", but I enjoy quite a few tracks on the new Hundredth record. I'll have to listen to that Jasta interview. I'm interested to hear more about their change in sound, especially if it's coming from the horse's mouth.

Agreed. After Hundreth put out one of the worst covers I've ever heard that butchered a classic, they could really only go up from there. Said cover is posted below:

    rip man in black.

Track Premiere: WAKE - 'Misery Rites' | Decibel Magazine

"Misery Rites" by Wake. FFO crusty, full-bodied grindcore.

Can't figure out how to embed it here because Soundcloud never ceases to piss me off, but this will likely be in my top 10 for 2018 by default. Their 2016 album is one of my favorite grind albums of all time, and based on this track, I could see myself having similar sentiments for 2018 about their new release..
