oh my god, I'm back on my bullshit Prestigious

Honestly I just found it boring. The film spent so long building up to the last 10-15 minutes that after a while I just didn't care about the characters anymore. I like a good slow thriller but this one just didn't do it for me.

    I'm Back.

Relationship or not, just seemed like there was a lot of wasted time between when he first met her and when he sealed the deal. Yea we didn't see when they met, but it can be assumed at least a few days passed, and that's a lot of running and watching your back.

The mythos was set up by the guy at the beginning, I forgot his name, but when they're all sitting in the back yard he lays out the "rules" (to the best of his knowledge). There he explains that it's passed by sex, and it will kill whoever is next in line, before reaching the originator...but that's all we know. We don't know (according to the movie's own rules) if sometimes sex doesn't pass it, maybe it takes having sex a few times to pass it?

As for the guys on the boat, it's assumed that once they hit shore, they were killed (since they were all together) and then it went to the next person in line which was the main character.

Do you like Ti West movies? Because you basically summarized everything he directs.

Definitely a horror movie. What else would it be

    I'm Back.

I could see the argument where this home invasion movie isn't technically horror, especially since he abandons that one gimmick in the first few minutes after showing up.

    Suspense? Thriller?

Home invasion is definitely a subgenre of horror. Not that it matters though!

Either way, Hush was basically shite.

I'm tired of these unmotivated killers coming in and hesitating when given the chance to kill the one person they actually want to kill. Dude had no problems with anyone else, but for some reason wanted to really screw with the main chick.

    Made no sense.

You've just got to overanalyze every plot huh

    I liked Hush a lot

I just hate these tropes being used in every goddamn movie of a specific genre. Would it really be a bad thing to write something original and fun?

Here's an idea for a home invasion movie:

-First of all get out of the upper-middle/upper class neighborhoods.
-Drug dealer runs his business out of his house.
-Group of people looking to score want to rob him.
    -Typical home invasion tropes.
-Bad guys win, kill the drug dealer and steal all the shit.
-Others in the neighborhood find out, tables turn on the bad guys who are now held up in the house.

Sounds shitty but would probably be fun.

I think that's why I dug The Perfect Host so much. It's always fun seeing the tables turned on the bad guys.

See even that's just a twist on the formula. Hush is too. So is Funny Games. So is Ils. You've gotta accept the tropes if you're gonna enjoy these movies.

Yea, and the movies you just mentioned were practically my favorites in the genre because they're unique. Another good one is the Spanish "Kidnapped". Easily one of the best home invasion of all time, and brutal but not in a shock value way.

Ah, it used to be. Then again maybe I watched it because it was going away

  16. New Adam Wingard movie. The trailer does contain hyperbolic praise and an eerie cover of a popular pop song, but I'm excited for it.

I've seen 3 of his movies and liked 2 of them(The Innkeepers And The Sacrament) but didn't like V/H/S.

  19. I love V/H/S and The Sacrament haha. Don't remember much about The Innkeepers. But I definitely wouldn't call those movies boring. I really enjoy that group of filmmakers (Ti West, Adam Wingard, and especially Joe Swanberg's non-horror movies)

You know what movie was really good that I haven't watched in forever? The Others w/ Nicole Kidman.
