The only one on that list I've listened to is Bereft which, for me, was good but not memorable.

I also haven't been impressed by Byzantine's past output and can't see why their new album would change that. Like you, groove metal does nothing for me unless it's old-school Sepultura or Pantera.

Only heard of Black Anvil on that list, who I have not listened to, despite being pretty into Kill Your Idols

I hope Midnight never stops with the sleazy, ugly album art.

Another bad list: Metal Hammer's 100 best albums of 2017

    Top 5 for reference:

    5) Zeal & Ardor – Devil Is Fine
    4) Enslaved – E
    3) Code Orange – Forever
    2) Myrkur – Mareridt
    1) Mastodon – Emperor Of Sand

Meh I'm fine with that top 5 even though it's not what mine would be at all, despite liking all those albums. Mastodon probably cracks my top 5, but that's about it.

There's some really good stuff on that list but the order is kinda fucked, and some stuff I wouldn't put on there at all.

Yeah...like Kreator at #18 and Darkest Hour in the 50s? Seems like a list of 100 albums with no real order lol

Also? Marilyn Manson at #14 is uh, not right. Haha. I mean, it's a fine album and all but I wouldn't say it's one of the best of the year let alone ranked that high, above a lot of more deserving albums. Honesty, the only year-end metal lists I've really cared about the past few years have been Decibel, Pitchfork, and Invisible Oranges. I'm sure there's other good ones, but yeah most of the mainstream publications seem to more or less pick what was most popular and leave it at that.

Now that I take another look....this list has Papa Roach and Comeback Kid. So. Yeah. Not giving it any weight.

I've liked angry metal guy's reviews. His best of the year won't be out for some time but it's always solid.

    a literal succubitch

Zeal & Ardor's "Devil Is Fine" was technically first released in 2016 but also if I'm not mistaken the much larger label re-release was a 2017 release, so, eh? Technicalities? Lol. Either way that album is placing in my top five.

that new darkest hour album was good (their best since deliver us), but it didn't have staying power for me. i forgot it came out this year until i started looking up releases that i listened to to make my end of the year list.

AS I LAY DYING Frontman TIM LAMBESIS Issues Lengthy Statement

go the fuck away, tim. no one is clamoring for that as i lay dying reunion where it'd be you plus whatever low brow hired guns you could scrape together. and lest we forget that you tried to hire a hitman to kill your wife and kidnap your kids? give me a fucking break.

When I saw this update on my Facebook feed I thought it was a glitch or something. Immediately unfollowed them but damn, this was out of the blue

i'm really just curious what his end game here is, but it's one of two options: 1) he's either genuinely remorseful, but does his screaming into the void really wash away that fact you tried to kill the woman who's the mother of your kids and run off with them? especially after you served about half of your original sentence (that brings a lot of external factors such as prison overcrowding into view, but we should be releasing the low-level drug offenders over people who tried to hire hitmen, but that's not really in the purview of this discussion) or 2) the more nefarous option: his endgame is to revive his musical career in some form and this is the first step to begin his public atonement. news flash: the world isn't clamoring for austrian death machine or the shadows are security 13th anniversary tour in 2018.

The Best Metal Albums of 2017

Good mix of the familiar, stuff I still need to listen to, and stuff I've never heard of before. I expect nothing less from Bandcamp. Good show.

Decibel gave Paradise Lost their #1 spot this year. Paradise Lost also made lists from Rolling Stone, Metal Hammer, and Loudwire based on a quick Google Search. Not bad I'd say.

Unfortuately, they're not gonna be on Bandcamp's list because Medusa isn't on the platform which I'm like 95% certain is a prereq for inclusion on their list.
