I don’t think I said they would be bad. (?)

I started this off saying I have zero interest in KOTOR stuff. But I also just have less interest in general in going back.

The Solo stuff will be hopefully be fun, but it won’t have some big picture impact or explain some mystery. Meh.

Going back automatically restricts how the story can be told. Doesn’t mean it’ll be bad, but it is just how prequels work.

I’m guessing we’ll never find out how Maz got Luke’s lightsaber.

My only point is that I have zero interest in going back to anything like KOTOR. Nothing you say can change that.

It’s one thing to touch on it in a “present day” movie. But a movie based solely on that? Hard pass.

What type of lightsaber will Rey make?

I bet it uses at least one kyber crystal

I was wondering if she will just repair the skywalker saber or will she go in search of finding a kyber crystal based off a recommendation from the texts.

Probably not but we cant ignore JJ being on 9. I think hell be more likely to want to see the seeds he planted come to fruition in the end.

That’s how I prefer it as well. During my first showing there were a few moments of laughter but the majority was met with silence. My second showing was complete silence.

Sometimes I think the hype will cause die hard fans to laugh. It’s like a high and the slightest stuff can get fans emotional. It’s always the first weekend showings that have it.

isnt this kind of an immature mindset? just seems weird to completely block out an entire era

  12. Personally I'm not very interested in seeing young Han or young Obi-Wan, though I'm sure their movies could be good.

I'm more intrigued by seeing the first lightsaber being built, witnessing a Sith empire, watching young jedi explore new planets, things of that nature. There's plenty of originality to be found in the previous decades before anyone heard of a Skywalker

Nah. Nothing anyody here say changes that era or what it is at this point.

If they do make a movie about it and it is good, that could change my mind. But some dudes on the Internet? Nah.

I don't personally understand how so many people can view the Finn and Rose storyline a waste of time. I've already made this comparison here, but the various plot lines here in a weird way remind me of GOTG Vol 2 (another film that people complained about being unfocused) in that, while the events of the different plots don't directly affect each other that much, every piece of the film is connected in very significant thematic ways, into a whole that really elevates the disparate parts.

Ultimately, this is a film about subverting the Star Wars tradition of everyone being related: Darth Vader is Luke's father! Leia is his sister! Chewie fought in the Clone Wars. And C-3PO was, um, built by a young Vader? There's good and bad to that whole soap opera tradition in Star Wars, but I love the way that details like Rey's background have pulled the story out from beyond those confines. In a way, The Last Jedi was a far more successful version of Rogue One's perspective broadening (and I still love Rogue One).

And, the whole Finn and Rose storyline is fundamental to that perspective broadening. A former member of Star Wars' iconic army of nameless cannon fodder teamed up with the sister of a dead Resistance/Rebellion soldier on an adventure that revealed both sides buy their weapons from the same supplier. A kid they met on this journey directly tied into the end of Luke's story (outside of potential future Force Ghost appearances), but even without that scene, their journey had just as much to do with the central goal of the film as Rey's journey with Kylo Ren did. It wasn't a subplot tossed together just to give fan favorite characters something to do that took away from the main plot; it was a complimentary subplot underscoring the main plot.

Also, outside of that thematic side, I just loved the world-expanding of that casino. In the same way that Finn, Rose, and BDT's character felt like a deeper version of Rogue One (as did Poe's scenes), the casino also felt like the purest form of what the prequels were going for. I'm in the camp that views all 3 prequels as so bad I'll never revisit them, even Episode III, but things like Pod Racing and Obi Wan in the diner were, in my opinion, cool ideas. Not necessarily executed well (particularly the diner), but still, at the core, cool ideas. Even the Gungan world could've been great! lol. The casino was that adventurous vibe done well, and while it made the film longer and interrupted cool Jedi stuff, I still loved spending time there.

-we haven’t seen any saber built on screen (non animated). It being done in any era would be essentially the same thing. Doesn’t need to be old Republic.
-don’t care about the Sith. Mystery is better than learning too much about them.
-could be done in any era with any characters

And, I agree, a Skywalker doesn’t need to be involved. Which again, could be any era.

I just will never understand having that narrow of a mindset and being open to other ideas. There's TONS of content that they could do regarding the Old Republic, and almost all of that wouldn't be hindered by it being a prequel at all, it's just puzzling to continuously say that it would be

    Dudes applies to all types.

And there is nothing to discuss about KOTOR. I have had zero interest for years. I’ve never said it was bad, I just don’t want them wasting a movie on something I don’t care to see. Which is also why I am not that interested in the Solo movie.

So people saying don't write an entire era off is too much, but if the movie based on that era was actually good you would change your mind. So why not just have a open mind?

Both times when I saw the film people were clapping and cheering throughout. Also at both showings people were clapping after the Infinity War trailer. That’s the only time I’ve witnessed people clapping for a trailer.

Saying that "dude applies to all types" to someone that is very clearly not okay with being called it is a terrible look and I encourage you to step back and see that.

Clapping during or after movies irks me so much. They can't hear you. I promise, I've checked. The only time I could see it being excusable was right when the opening fanfare started for The Force Awakens, because it had been so long and it was just an exciting occasion. Now when Star Wars is coming out every year it isn't as special anymore. So cut it out!

You hear me? Everyone out there?

    Cut.
    It.
    Out.
