Also I think TFA probably has the best directing but also didn’t have the most original plot to support it. But it was pitch perfect (and very safe) throughout.

2017 is the year the internet message board reaction became the “acceptable” public reaction

 

It seems pretty crazy to me to question someone’s intelligence over a Star Wars movie. I mean, I really enjoy Star Wars, but at the end of the day we’re talking about a fun, and silly, space opera. there are probably plenty of reasons to not like it lol. I think I’m seeing it today and I’m mainly excited cause I love Rian Johnson and I really hope his tone shines through. The fact that it is so divisive really intrigues me

If you don't think a couple of the twists were pretty bold then idk. As far as the directing, there were a lot of great shots and interesting sweeps and things I don't know much about lol

TFA is (or maybe was, I'll tell you after I see TLJ a few more times) my second favorite in the series. It was very safe but so much fun. I might say Rogue One had better direction though.

Not sure if that first statement was sarcasm, it's just I understand dissent but this seems to be a rare case where there is no general consensus along audiences (different case with critics)

 

Agreed. The new films really do benefit from having a new eye behind the camer.

It’s partial sarcasm partial opinion. And yeah. It’s rare to see something this divides. But it fits in the current climate of America for sure.

It’s a very political film, but Star Wars always has been. So I’m not sure why people are saying the politics is the main reason they dislike it. They practically bludgeoned with the message, but it was very consistent with the whole series.

What new political elements does TLJ introduce that weren't already there throughout the series? For me, TLJ fleshed out the grey area between the light and dark, and the need to move past staunch traditionalism
