Star Wars: The Last Jedi (Rian Johnson, December 15, 2017) Movie • Page 188

  1. Didn't immediately love this as much as The Force Awakens, but it was good. Some of the jokes were a little too much, the porgs were adorable but overused (probably a Disney marketing strategy there). I didn't love the movie, but I'm anxious to see it again to see how I feel after a re-watch.

Random thought here, but the scene on Crait felt so familiar to me after having played that level on Battlefront II all week. Crazy how much the game nailed it. It felt so much different during that part of the movie than the rest because of that.

The initial scene with the porgs and chewie was good, everything beyond that was eyeroll worthy.

I am one of three people I know that genuinely love this movie... I don't understand why people are so determined to not like it.

  7. For me, it just didn't have the same classic Star Wars magic as TFA. My expectations for TLJ were probably too high because of it. TFA might be my fav Star Wars movie. So yeah.

I’m with you. The hate is so bizzare. Sure some things didn’t work in the movie, but to actively hate it? I personally loved it. I think it’s my second favorite Star Wars movie. I know I’ll be arguing about this one a lot haha

My wife and I both absolutely loved it and were stunned to see so many negative reactions on the internet.

In retrospect, the negativity makes sense, we just hadn’t narrowed down exactly why we love it so much. It’s the subverting of expectations that simultaneously draw people to love it and hate it.

This is literally the first time I've heard or read of anyone having that kind of take. Re: TFA

That seems to be a common theme though: people were expecting a TON of things out of this movie and for many, Johnson and co. systematically ripped apart each one of those expectations.

My biggest complaint is pacing, and how the first two thirds of the film felt like such a slog. Also sets a bad tone right from the jump with Poe's call-in joke on Huxley. And the unintentional comedy of Leia using the force.

I got back on board when Kylo/Rey teamed up, but up to that point is was a slog for me.

People found humor in the Leia scene? Weird.

It was very OOT and looked silly as fuck. I had to stifle a laugh because I didn't want to ruin anyone's experience.

Just so unexpected, nonsensical and yet another instance of the movie undercutting itself.

Still kind of a weird reaction.

Edit: also didn’t look goofy at all to me.

I think it looked kind of weird, but I am very glad they decided to actually do something with Leo’s that was force related.

Not enough Porgs in the movie tbh

Probably a weirder reaction to think that scene was completely ok.

The CGI itself was poor. Her physical position made it look even more awkward. And the distance she had to travel and time it took to get back to the ship felt odd. Maybe if it was shot and cut better it would’ve landed better.

These might have been the greater offenses, though: the CGI for whatever those creatures Finn and Rose rode were as well as them riding the AT-ST with BB-8.

It seems pretty split on whether people like it or not. I am on the “likes it” side.

This is the first I’ve heard of people finding humor or it looking goofy.

It just looks like she was click and drug by the wrist in some physics sandbox, it looked completely unnatural and wrong to me.
