I came away from the movie feeling like redemption has passed. There was a chance, but Kylo passed and both Luke and Leia acknowledged 'Ben' was basically lost and not coming back.

I feel like I have to watch it a second time.

But I don't like leaving the theatre feeling I gotta watch a movie a second time.

After seeing it a second time last night and thinking over it some more with friends I appreciate the risks the film took more than the first viewing. There are still some things I dislike like the lack of an actual lightsaber fight and Leia surviving in space, but the characters arcs in this, especially for Ben and Rey, and the Yoda scene made this a great film.

"well my favorite movie franchise used to be Star Wars but since Disney and Rian Johnson burned it to the ground, I would say I guess maybe Star Trek, at least that's trending in the right direction"

Killing a proposed main villain in the 2nd act of the film for starters, which I liked. That was a risky move though and has upset some that saw it.

Putting in new, unheard of force abilities, taking fan expectations and turning them around or ignoring them, making Luke Skywalker who is arguably the most beloved film hero a flawed and almost unlikeable human being etc

I know SOME people liked Star Trek: Beyond, but I've seen that movie twice and can't remember a single thing that happened. It's one of those "meh" movies (the worst type) IMO

Saw it again last night and I loved it even more the second time. I don’t want to retread what’s already been said, so I’ll skip all my loves and mention a few new things:

-Suprised I haven’t seen anyone mention how much like Battlestar Galactica this movie was. That feel really allowed them to focus just on the main characters and their growth which was amazing to me.

-Yoda’s line about Luke always looking to the Horizon and never being in the here and now I think perfectly describes why a lot of people are not liking this movie. They’ve been seeing Rey’s parents and Snoke as these big mysteries for two years now (rightly so after TFA) and thinking of all the what if’s and Rian Johnson just hit us all in the head with a stick and said, “You’re missing the story of who these characters are and who they’re becoming. That’s what you should be focusing on.” And that’s just a lot to forget and let go. I think over time once the fan theories fade and we accept this as the story we have, more and more will enjoy this movie. This isn’t to say people don’t have legitimate gripes because I totally understand some criticisms, I’ve just seen a lot of people’s personal expectations get in the way of enjoying the movie.

  19. I truly hate that movie.

The r-rated Tarantino one is gonna be ... interesting.

Okay, having more time sitting on it and thinking about the movie has me excited to see it again. Also gave the soundtrack a spin, way darker than the actual movie lol

Yeah I don’t know how I feel about that. Like I can’t think of a director who represents the antithesis if he themes of Star Trek more than Tarantino... but at the same time I don’t care about Star Trek... so what do I care if he is suited for it.

"I like character and theme more than plot". So do I which this is one of my favorite movies of all time already. This movie is dense with it. And I also just saw the movie again and my opinion of Canto Bight changed dramatically but ill make a separate post. Also I loved Guardians 2. Really everything youre saying mirrors my opinions lol I wouldve simply been more satisfied if he got to go through with it. Just me :)

Came back from this and ended up loving it. It felt fresh in a way TFA (as much as I really like it) never quite did to me, loved that it played with expectations in interesting and sometimes surprising ways and made me further fall in love with the main trio of Poe/Finn/Rey (especially Poe, who seemed like he got far more to do in this one). Definitely going to catch this again very soon.

I saw this again. will get to my thoughts in a bit, but I love it even more than I already did. My complaints initially really didnt bother me at all second time through for the most part.

But first I want to say, John Williams fucking killed as always. The score was one of my highlights a second time through since I wasnt focused on whats going to happen and just wow. The new theme I think for Rose reminds me of something from Jurassic Park and was so great. Overall just amazing
