Haven’t seen The Last Jedi yet but I just rewatched The Force Awakens. Absolutely love the movie but Finn has a ton of corny lines. I like John Boyega but Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver really steal the show.

i can recommend a movie for you then

  3. Yup it’s insane that people can’t see that

  4. people complain in 2015 about The Force Awakens because it was too similar to A New Hope and now those same losers are complaining in 2017 about The Last Jedi because it’s a new fresh take expanding on the lore.

(This post isn’t about anyone in this thread / it’s more to do with outside world)

I'm going way back in the thread here but this was also one of my favorite moments lmao

  6. I think Poe and Luke made the most character progression in the movie especially Poe - I love that he finally understood how to be a leader - really enjoyed his arc this film

And Luke man it was great - he lost his faith in the Jedi and Rey and his former teacher helped restore it and it was just great

    Also this movie was hilarious

And I love all the porgs

Well, I absolutely fucking loved this. The first two acts were good, but the third act was absolute perfection. What a Star Wars movie. What a film.

Some random thoughts after a second viewing...

-I loved the Rose stuff this time around. I enjoyed her the first time, but it hit me way more this time. I was really pulled into her performance and legit teared up when she was potentially dead/injured. She very much represents the best of the rebellion and is a true source of hope and inspiration within the Resistance.

-the Luke stuff hit way harder this time for me on the bigger level. As I posted earlier, the final shot hit harder for me this time. For those who haven’t read it, The Legends of Luke Skywalker is a book released this fall where multiple “legends” about Luke were told throughout the book. The “present” time line in the book had some crew members aboard a ship heading to canto Bite telling stories about Luke they have heard about over the years. Some of the Legends told are kind of weird and random. A couple of them really tie into what Luke did in this film. Primarily, his views of the force and the vanity of Jedi thinking they are needed to keep balance in the force and should be using it is set up in a story called, Fishing in the Deluge (Also his fishing style was somewhat mentioned here). A Jedi sacrificing themselves to “open” up a way out for someone else and their situation is set up in a legend called “Big Inside”. The crew story telling is almost basically what we saw in that final scene. One of the members involved was interacting with the fathiers as well. Luke’s actions on Craig were reminiscent of a story told titled The Starship Graveyard. In the story the narrator claims that Luke pulled a Star Destroyer down from the sky on Jakku. Whether this is true or not is not really determined (personally, based on the Aftermath books, I say it’s bogus). But Luke taking on the First Order single handily and “surviving” that attack would fit right into this book. These stories serve to inspire the crew members. Which is exactly what it seems to do for the Resistance. Within the movie, taking into consideration the Legends book, Luke gave the galaxy one last legend to be told and passed on to ignite the spark of hope that the galaxy needs. Shit, that’s a lot. My bad. I’m rambling.

-Leia’s Reaction to Luke “touching” her forehead gives away that she knows he isn’t there. I think C-3PO gets the wink from Luke because 3PO senses that his life form isn’t truly in front of him.

-the failure is so prelevant in this movie. Rey, Luke, Poe, Finn, Kylo, etc. it’s all over this film and I love it.

-I think it’s very purposeful that Rey is the first person to say her parents were nobodies. It’s not something Kylo convinces her of. He urges her to say what she knows to be true. She puts that idea out, it’s not presented as a trick or lie by Kylo. If they bring up her parents again I would be very surprised.

I am more tired than I thought I was. I should go.

Man, I 100% loved this movie, everything about it unabashedly. I understood what many long time fans hated about it more than I expected to, but much of what went against said fans' expectations is ultimately what made this appeal to me so much. It's easily my favorite of the 3 modern Star Wars films.

I'm sure I'll eventually make some tl;dr post fleshing out my thoughts, but for now, I just want to go on record as Team The Last Jedi.

dammit I wanna see this thrice

also lol @ whoever said there wasn't a lot of character progression. Poe and Finn alone had massive character shifts

also I recalled the line Yoda said to Luke about "there is nothing in those books that the girl Rey does not already possess" because she took the books. Yoda being a damn troll lol

Yeah, Marvel has been pretty safe so far. I’d hope Infinity War will change that but probably not

Yeah I’m always confused cause every new Marvel movie I hear people claim “yeah this ones different!” But they never really are. They all have the same humor, structure, cinematography etc. when Disney first bought Star Wars I was worried it would be marvelized. Now that Rian is basically the new George Lucas for Star Wars, I’m not even slightly worried about that.
