The critical response has been overwhelmingly positive and it's still going to make a ton of money. Even people who say they didn't like it have, like at least 80% of the time, followed that up with some variation of "...but I'm still going to see it again." So it's going to have legs even though the initial audience reaction has been so negative. Johnson's trilogy will be fine.

im sure even people who hated this will see it twice just to reconfirm that they hated it.

I can't believe they made Gwendolyn Christie do every single press junket again and then did that to her again. The most pointless character in Star Wars history, with the hype of a main character.

This time they didn't even let her take off the mask. What a mess.

  5. I bet the CinemaScore is an A to A- too. Maybe a B at the worst.

Yeah, like I've been saying all day, I think when all is said and done, and the legacy of this trilogy is fully evaluated, the mishandling of Phasma, and the related mishandling of Finn's character development, will be the one thing that stands out the most in terms of negatives.

This was also probably Domnhall Gleeson's worst performance ever. How do you have one of the most charismatic actors who literally sparks off the screen in everything he is in and then make him basically just an impish feckless leader?

She's talked about how she wanted to be in the movie and how much just being in a SW movie meant to her ... not every character needs to be a huge character with lots of screen time and face time and a full arc. I woulda used her differently, but I don't think she's "pointless" or "a mess."

"Made her" do press for a thing she loved sure seems like torture.

its okay to not like the art but I think the people that hate this movie and are being so dramatic about it need this movie the most. Its funny to me how people love star wars so much and then ignore the mythology and the messages in it and really exemplify the dark side of attachment.

I didn't mind Phasma's role in this film. Like Boba, she doesn't have much screen time, but she does well with what is given to her. Same with Maul.

We reach for the longest shadow

Anyone have any analysis of what the heck was going on in the darkness of Ach-To with the thousand Reys? I'm going to need to watch that scene a lot to really understand what they were trying to get across there.

that was the only thing that felt very ESB-ish to be, like when Luke saw himself in the Vader helmet in the cave, she inevitably sees herself in the reflection when she asks to see her parents. really liked that whole segment and look forward to paying closer attention to it tomorrow.

Ill give a quote from the Phasma book "what do you know, the greasy ginger weasel produced another greasy ginger weasel" or something along those lines talking about him and his dad Brendol Hux
    Thought he was amazing

  18. He's fantastic for that character. He plays it so perfectly. The smirk walking past Kylo, the hatred/jealousy/the move for the gun. He's so good.

Basically, Rey can keep looking for eternity for answers about her past, but ultimately it is irrelevant and all that matters is her (the present). Who she is Matters outside of her past.

    Let the past die.

Why are we taking what Ben said about Rey's parentage at face value. It's not like he was trying to manipulate her into joining him or anything... I think we still don't know the truth about Rey's parents.

Yeah, I don't usually pay it any mind. But when a movie is universally loved by critics and then panned by "fans" I think thats when you know the trolls are out.

  25. Yep. It's pretty clear. People are weird when they do this shit ... upvoting/downvoting things online like it matters. I ... I don't get the internet most days. When they attack YouTube videos is kinda my favorite though, it's like ... um ... good job guys.
