I really hope the Rey story is true (her parents being nobodies that is)

Just wondering what makes you say that?

I personally am inclined to believe it, and think it's fine. She doesn't NEED to be anybody to have the force or be this powerful, and I think the final scene with the little kid using the force lends to that belief as well, hope and heroes can come from anywhere. I would not be OPPOSED to it being a lie and revealing her parentage is different than this movie leads you to believe, but if it ended up that it was true, i think it's fine and more than an acceptable revelation.

I would actually be disappointed if the thing about Rey's parents wasn't true. I like that moment/reveal, it was great.

it was a great emotional scene i think. he was so brutally honest/mean, telling her shes nobody, shes nothing, shes from nowhere, her parents are dead buried in the dessert, but then telling her she means more than that to him, idk it was a great scene that I think having that reveal be a lie would take away from how well that scene was acted and written.

    So assuming that this weekend...

I'm okay with the truth about Rey. If it turns out to be different then that's fine, but there's something really powerful about her being a complete nobody from nowhere and becoming the hero the galaxy needs.

There wasn't one light saber battle in this movie. Kinda weird haha.

Yeah, agreed. That great scene is ruined if the reveal was a lie.

Regarding Holdo. She didn’t have or need to tell Poe shit. Seems pretty obvious that the film was presenting the idea that men need to chill the fuck out and that women are perfectly capable of getting shit done. It was shown that Poe harbored at least a tinge misogyny when he asked “that’s Holdo? Different than I was expecting...” Had Poe trusted the line of command laid out by Leia, heeded her advice earlier, and not interfered there wouldn’t have been so many deaths. Idk. Maybe there’s a scene where Holdo could have explained herself to Poe, but my thinking is she shouldn’t have to. If it was Admiral Akbar I highly doubt he relieves him of duty or questions his authority, authorizes secret missions that jeopardize the resistance, etc.

Also want to rewatch those Holdo/Poe interactions. At the time the film was unfolding, I thought she was wrong, but then again I’m a man that probably should chill the fuck out a little.

  12. It's so uncommon for me to be THIS conflicted about a movie.

I've slept on it, but still can't decide whether I absolutely loved it or thought it was just fine.

It makes me want to cancel all plans tonight to go see it again.

lightsaber vs lightsaber battle where they make contact specifically.

Not counting the Luke/Ben hut scene

right after that scene I kept thinking how that shot would've been cooler if they didn't blatantly show the saber moving towards Snoke, but kind of like subtly panned the camera back so you would kind of notice it that way. That would make the payoff more exciting when they finally show him switch the saber on because obviously at that point he wasn't going for Rey

I think it was high time for someone who isn't a Skywalker/Kenobi/Solo to be the hero. It sets up Rian's next trilogy well that it can be somewhere different and everyone doesn't have to be connected.

I love how "meta" the film is with this line of dialogue.

So I'm not too well versed with the force and the balance -- I'm trying to figure out where they go from here with Ep 9. Would killing Kylo/or him sacrificing himself cause an imbalance then? If that were to happen? I know a lot of people assumed he would die in some way in Ep 9 (would seem pretty similar to Vader in ROTJ). I'm sorry this is probably a dumb question ha

I get what you're saying about Poe needing to chill and trust the process, but I don't think the movie is trying to dive into misogyny or sexism at all.

I feel like some of the decisions they made were made just to spite the fan theories. Idk if that makes sense. Like it felt that maybe some of the revelations in this film weren’t originally intended to be played out the way they were, but they had curveballs thrown just for shock value and not giving credit to fans who guessed right.. but the decisions made may be due to some significant changes that were made to the overall story of the trilogy due to leias death and how that could’ve changed the whole trajectory for the story.

Also, I really thought they were gonna throw us for a crazy curveball when Snoke wants Kylo to kill Rey, I thought he might just kill himself for some reason Lol

Hmmm. The group I went out with after seemed pretty unanimous this was the case, including the women in the group. We may have been reading into it, granted.

okay so, here's a theory: I see a lot of people complaining about the first order not finding a way to kill them fast, but if they did, then Rey would've never been brought to Snoke. Maybe he wanted it to go slow so that he could show Rey how helpless they were and that would help push her to the dark side. It was obvious Hux is kind of a stupid meathead, so Snoke just lets him do whatever. If they had killed them quickly, Rey would've just stayed with Luke on Ach-To and Snoke would still have to deal with them later. This way they thought they could kill two birds with one stone. Thoughts?

I don’t think that has ever officially been stated in any capacity. It’s all guessing off of interpretations.

    Things have changed.

Am I crazy, or... did Luke and Rey start this movie in a different spot than they ended TFA in?
