Goddamn hilarious. I want to start a B movie segment and see how deep I can go before I can't watch anymore.

Think I want to start with the Carnosaur movies and Raptor, or Birdemic.

  6. Has anyone seen The Final Girls or Freaks of Nature? Thinking about renting some movies tonight.

There is a rabbit hole when it comes to these types of movies and I'm scared to go down. I had to watch 1980's Mother's Day and I FUCKING HATED IT, ugh, Troma can suck a dick, seriously. I know it's not technically troma, but close enough for me to stay far, far away from anything related to that goddamn production company.

Final Girls yes, and it needed to be rated R.

  9. Would you not recommend it then? I'd be lying if I said the rating wasn't part of the reason I passed on it last time.

No no, it was good, but after watching it you'll realize why it SHOULD have been rated R. It's poking fun at the genre yet pulling it's punches.

  11. Haha alright, if it's not still a new release I'll probably jump on it. It seemed to receive better reviews than Freaks of Nature, at least.

It's funny as all hell. I can describe it in the following way:

Friday The 13th with touches of Scream in a similar world as Last Action Hero.

Good looks on Bloodsucking Bastards! I had the luck to see it at a convention months before it came out. Hilarious movie

I hated Last Shift. Bone Tomahawk was good but i wouldn't put it on my top ten. Haven't seen The Encounter, Parallels, Cop Car... or The Hateful Eight

    Mine was something like

10 - We Are Still Here
    9 - Unfriended

    7 - The Final Girls
    6 - Bloodsucking Bastards
    5 - Krampus
4 - What We Do In The Shadows
    3 - The Visit
    2 - Ex Machina
    1 - It Follows

I had the chance to interview Fran Kranz when the movie was coming out, you could tell both he and the rest of the cast really enjoyed what they were doing.

I strayed a little bit from the straight up horror genre when coming up with that top 10 with Cop Car but at the end of the day, you have two young kids being stalked by a man who wants to kill them...that's pretty scary to me. Then Parallels as it reminded me of the old Fox show Sliders (basically same concept). The Encounter is horror related, and I have a soft spot for alien flicks.

I didn't like It Follows at all; the entire idea would have been non-existent if the first dude would have just slept with hookers. Yea it might have come back to him but getting into a relationship ONLY to pass it to her didn't make much sense. Also he kept his guard down WAY too much compared to the main girl once she started being stalked.

  18. I've never crafted a Top 10 for movies of the year, but last year's would have probably had Ex Machina at number one and Straight Outta Compton at number two. It would have included The Hateful Eight, It Follows and Krampus, too. Krampus is so much goddamn fun.

Anyways, I splurged on The Final Girls and Return of the Living Dead for tonight  (as well and Wallace and Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit haha).

  19. So The Final Girls was...interesting. I enjoyed a lot of it. It was campy and a ton of fun. Stylistically, I really enjoyed the visuals and the score was perfect. Some of the jokes landed (mostly Middleditch and Devine's, although the girl stripping after eating all the adderall had me laughing out loud) while others felt like forced one-liners. The emotional moments were nice, but I thought those were spotty as well. I know I'm overthinking it, but honestly, my biggest problem were flaws in the movie's "rules," or logic or whatever you want to call it. Regardless, I thought it was surprisingly good fun and an interesting addition to the new breed of campy horror movies calling back to their source material, meta or not.

    7/10

I enjoyed Ratter. Would have been more well received if it had come out a few years ago. Found footage/paranormal activity style movies have run their course. Ashley Benson was good in some scenes, but is a pretty mediocre actress.

Yep she's very mediocre and was my main issue with it.

To be fair, was it ever established that they were in a relationship? It seemed to me that they were just dating and they decided to have sex. Not to mention that was the point of the film in my opinion, things get passed on to you when you least expect it. In this case, a forever persistent enemy that hunted you down until you stopped. Beyond that, pretty sure the scene with the friend established how silly that idea is. Homeboy would have to bang hookers for the rest of his life to prevent that thing from going after him.

Why do you think The Invitation is mediocre?

That really isn't how it worked at all. It seems to me like you were just dying to find something wrong with the film to criticize it.

It was never going to stop coming from him. We don't know his story before he met Jay. He could've slept with numerous people before her to pass it on. The girl at the very beginning was someone that he passed it to. I mean we saw Jay swim out to a boat to have sex with three guys at once...and it still kept coming. There's no way to break the cycle. That's what's terrifying about the concept.

So the idea is never non-existent. He could've had sex with prostitutes consistently. It wouldn't stop because of that.
