I see what you did there, Craig. Very sly. Don't worry, your secrets are safe with us.

Really good interview with Brian, talks about his whole career really, including the new album and he gives some details about the tracks "Etta James" and "See You On The Other Side".
audioBoom / BRIAN FALLON – on sharing a stage with Springsteen, time with The Gaslight Anthem, and upcoming solo album ‘Sleepwalkers’

Also he makes it seem like Gaslight will definitely do shows in the future but I doubt there will be a new record any time soon. He says in retrospect he is really proud of the 5 albums in their catalogue and it seems like he might be content to leave it at that.

I loved listening to Brian talk music, influences and outlooks.

I hope one day The Gaslight Anthem catches lightning. The Brian solo stuff feels more and more like an incredible journey as well, going from Tin Pan Alley, The Blues Mary, No Weather, Goodnight Irene, Horrible Crowes, Painkillers and now Sleepwalkers. All very different, but very Brian.

I hope someday he does an iTunes style sessions for his solo work and records "Atlantic City", "That's Entertainment", and songs like that with the band.

It's nice to hear him happy, humble, and unlike so many musicians, able to enjoy and appreciate his own music.

    Can't wait for Sleepwalkers.

The whole "never do another Gaslight album" thing is very hard for me to understand.

I really wish he'd do a Phil Collins/Genesis thing where he'd do a 2 year run of solo album/tour, then revert back to the band. Rinse and repeat. Those songs are WAY too good to be put away forever, and that band is too good to never record material again.

If there are band tensions, I'd rather he replace that member and continue on as "Gaslight Anthem" rather than never write that type of music again.

Failing that, while I think Painkiillers is near perfect, I do hope he gets back to writing more Gaslight-type harder rock songs at some point, whatever moniker it comes under.

I think his explanation makes perfect sense of why he doesn't want to do another album. He doesn't just want to make another album to just have another album to put out and promote under the Gaslight name. If he's struck by inspiration for an idea he's open to it, but the idea of just forcing himself to write a "Gaslight" album doesn't appeal to him.

Listening to the interview, and my god, his description of the last song's meaning already tells me this album could wreck me emotionally. Per usual.

I really hope to see the band tour again but I personally don't share the disappointment that they're not putting out new albums any time soon. Don't get me wrong, that'd be great -- but I can't say I'm less excited for Sleepwalkers than I was for the past few Gaslight albums. I guess because Brian's songwriting is the primary reason I loved Gaslight, I won't really feel like something is "missing" unless he stopped making music altogether.

And, of the last four albums Brian has put out, I prefer the two non-Gaslight ones (Elsie and Painkillers) to the two Gaslight albums.

Gaslight will absolutely play shows again, I'd bet my life on it. I really thought we would get the Governor's Ball clues answered today when presale went live, as clue number four is almost certainly meant to invoke Gaslight.

Even in that interview he pretty much was adamant they would be doing shows again. I'm totally down to see Gaslight again, even without new music. I love Painkillers and am super excited for Sleepwalkers. Brian's writing is my favorite part of all his projects, with Elsie being my favorite album he's made.

  10. I don't think Gaslight is done making records by some conscious choice, just based on how Brian has talked about it in recent interviews and on Twitter, but if that's the case, I'm actually cool with it. I love Get Hurt, I think it makes sense as the end of a chapter in the sphere of Brian's songwriting, and if "Dark Places" is at the very end of the Gaslight canon, I think that makes a lot of sense, too.

I would pay $30 every few months to see Gaslight play just existing material. I remember in the farewell address he mentioned "not wanting to be one of those bands you buy tickets and shirts for" but don't release new music. I was like, fuck, I would love if you did that! I love his solo stuff, I love Crowes, but man did I love the wordless energy between Brian, Benny, and the Alex's, with Ian becoming an on-stage fifth seamlessly. That was a band on the same page, some of the jams they'd launch in to over a bridge or something would end up the highlights of a show.

I wonder where things would lie in all regards if Brian decided it was time to go solo before Get Hurt.

Wrecked 'em? Damn near killed 'em!

Man, I forgot about Matt Pinfield, but this was a great interview. And I didn't realize Brian could build amps, but the rationale behind it was smart being a young, touring band with no spare funds to buy new amps if something broke.

Yeah, they were super tight and always looked like they were having fun no matter what.

Elsie is definitely an album I turn to during this time of year more than any other. Something about it and Lorde's "Pure Heroine" both scream "cold weather music" to me. Also, it's a gorgeous sounding album too. The production is crazy good. I hope Ted Hutt brings some of that touch to Sleepwalkers

Man that pinfield interview was great. I love that he recognizes Underneath The Ground as one of his best.

I first started listening to TGA after seeing them open for Rise Against in 2012, but never ended up getting the chance to see them headline. Would love to see a small "comeback" tour for that reason alone, with or without new material.

Damn, that’s cool Zane Lowe is doing the interview. I’m curious how well this record performs outside of the Gaslight/Fallon fan community.

Brian always insists on releasing the opener as a pre-release track, doesn't he?

Normally I'd say I wish he wouldn't do that, but "If Your Prayers Don't Get to Heaven" is the other new song that he's already played live...and I've watched that quite a few times. Didn't know it was the opener at the time. I'll take hearing a mastered version of a song I already "know" and then having 10 straight new tracks to listen to.

Oh yeah, it's a great first track. Got me pumped right away. But I feel like there are other songs on here he could have released.

Releasing the opening track as a single or pre-release track is just a general pet peeve of mine. I get why it happens, but I'd rather it didn't. Part of the reason I've stopped listening to pre-release tracks for anything but by favorite artists.

  24. I do the same. I don't listen to one off songs very often,.

I will say I was semi-hoping for the title track instead, if this clip from recording is in fact the title track (made that assumption based on the "walking in our sleep" lyrics.)
