i mean i agree, i'm not saying that i don't think all of their opinions are totally wrong. i just think relating abuse with political inclination is wrong, especially since we've proven that people on both sides are abusive

  3. I think conservative polices are abusive and bigoted. These aren’t “opinions,” this is happening daily. To support these very real policies is to tacitly endorse that abuse and bigotry.

is anyone who has ever had right leaning political views and didn't vote for trump a bad person? solely out of curiosity for your viewpoints here

this isn't about the current self-centered views of the republican party, it's about the historical belief system

  5. Depends what those views, specifically, are, but if they are what are most considered “conservative views” — then yes. The historical belief system itself is centered in bigotry and the abuse of power to the detriment of other classes. I’d argue their class warfare is a defining attribute. (And this Paul Ryan wing/policy of the party is a direct continuation of that.)

It's so easy to not kick cameras into people's faces though.

that is a given, yes. kicking any equipment supplied by the venue or another person is incredibly shitty, even worse so when there’s a person behind it.

Using "rock 'n' roll" as an excuse is absurd and "being lost in performance" is not an excuse to assault any one.

Do you know how many times I’ve seen bands who were definitely “lost in a performance” and went out of their way to NOT assault anyone or make sure anyone else was assaulted/hurt? What a dumb excuse.

Yes he shouldn't have done it, and it was a shitty thing to do. That said, it seemed genuine and I'm not going to write him off for this, as long as he actually changes his actions.

I volunteer to personally hold these people accountable for their actions with a match to the death. If they cannot best me, they are guilty and deserve a kamehameha to the face.

In all seriousness, I am glad this thread was made. Accountability in this genre, or any genre, is important. There is not an excuse for things that people like Jesse Lacey or anyone else to do any of these acts and get away with it. It’s criminal. Nothing excuses it.

  19. Someone shared this in the shoegaze group I'm a part of on Facebook. Haven't seen it reported anywhere yet:

Jesus fucking christ recently I made a list of like 40 artists I’ve been meaning to check out soon and so far 5 of them have turned out to be creeps or worse

Why Brand New and Others Didn’t Make the Year-End Cut

Re: this article. Is there a good way to handle borderline cases? CoS and Stereogum (among others) notably left off some big albums not tied to high profile allegations this year (Tyler, the Creator and Mac Demarco), while Pitchfork (among others) has Tyler in their top 10.

I’m not really asking for opinions on including borderline cases on personal lists, because people can do what they want with their lists and music listening, but for publications, is there any “right” answer for how they handle situations like those?

has anyone said Mac and Tyler didn’t make it for those reasons though? Mac’s stuff is very not known in the public eye and we’ve already had the Tyler talk

I mean, unless you think Stereogum honestly didn’t find Tyler’s album to be one of the 40 most significant rap albums this year, I would speculate to say yes. I haven’t seen anyone explicitly say that though.

Honestly not sure about Mac, whether it’s in response to allegations or if the album just wasn’t very good. I’d guess that music journalists are aware if I am aware of it.

And I was posting the Tyler part here since you suggested posting in the album thread but I figured it’d work better here as a general question
