Yeah. Like I didn’t need anything to make me more hyped for this, I didn’t think I could be more hyped. But..... I am. These Twitter reactions are unreal.

Nope! I think it gives a good overall first impression from various people, nothing specific mentioned.

Can't wait! I have a strong feeling this will be better than TFA's. Damn Mark Hamill going for lead actor wow that would be amazing if he wins.

I get annoyed when Star Wars thinks it can redeem child murderers and the like. Really hope they dont do that again haha. I think that was George Lucas being completely tone deaf.

And yes Kylos super intense powers that no one else has had yet make him menacing and interesting. And I like his tantrums.

When I initially watched/left TFA the first time, I thought he was unhinged and badass. People thinking he’s weak/lame really blew my mind a bit.

I think this is one of the most interesting debates about Star Wars, because to me that’s always seemed to be one of the central themes of the series... that both darkness and light reside inside everyone. I’ve never thought the ending of ROTJ meant to redeem Vader completely, he can’t undo his past mistakes, but it showed that he still had some goodness left inside as well.

Is there no scenario where you think Kylo moving from antagonist to a more nuanced antihero or somewhat protagonist role could be a compelling arc? I think for me, it could partially depend on revelations of the character’s backstory and how he became the way he is. I think there’s plenty of ways in which a more nuanced arc for Kylo would be compelling storytelling, the idea that some characters are too “irredeemable” to ever do good again makes for boring storytelling (I’m not saying you’re advocating for that btw just speaking generally).

Idk I think the Annakin stuff doesnt work in the first place. But on top of that I feel that with everything Star Wars, good and evil is clear cut, no shades of gray. Whether or not im interested in exploring shades of gray is thrown out the window for me personally when you have a character commiting genocide, child murder, or rape. Thats my line. And beyond that it becomes tone deaf and stupid just for me personally.

Im very interested in exploring shades of gray otherwise. And i think weve surmised that TLJ will spend a little time doing so. And its in more capable hands. I dont believe Lucas has the tact (or restraint apparently) to explore taboo or political themes responsibly or intelligently.

But yes ill be very annoyed personally if the plot doesnt give proper attention to Rens child murdering or if theres a plot point that someone like that can be redeemed and shouldnt have to answer for it. Thats clear cut real world evil and nothing can change that.

yeah with the Jedi/Sith theyre WAAAAAAY more clear cut in their moral compasses, which I guess makes sense but it makes it really difficult to redeem any Sith given what theyve very likely done or at the very least are comfortable with doing. Its like when the Fallout series tries to redeem a Raider or something, like idc how much they say theyve changed theyve raped and murdered and sold people into slavery.

Rogue One did a better job with the shades of gray, showing that the Rebels arent these goodie goods and theyre willing to do what must be done albeit they still have a line that they dont cross. or Finn in TFA, im sure hes not the only member of First Order to question what theyre doing.

I think with the force it’s different. The dark side manipulates and changed the individual and makes them do terrible things. The person they were before becomes suppressed and the dark side takes over like a virus. That’s how I’ve always viewed it, not saying they arnt responsible for it happening but I believe it a character can turn away from the dark side they can be redeemed.

Idk if thats canon or not but personally I think that makes for a lot less interesting story. I know Kenobi talks about Vader in that sense in ANH. I think fully commiting to a concept like that makes characters' personalities and decisions meaningless.
