    • Sound quality is noticeably better on Apple Music - Spotify is quieter and sounds tinny to me. You can test this by pressing play in Spotify and then switching over to Apple Music. Apple Music sounds more authentic and full. This is the main reason I switched over to Apple Music and the reason I have remained. I miss some of the Spotify playlists - the actively curated ones for pop punk and whatnot - but what’s the point if they sound like shit.
    • If you have music that isn’t on streaming - Apple Music (and I do have to give a shout out to Google Play Music here as well) allows you to upload your music in the cloud. I had a bunch of the Direct Hit! demos from years ago that you will never find on streaming saved in my Apple Music library.
    • Spotify has much better playlists, but I find the number of Daily Mixes and suggestions to be overwhelming. Apple keeps it simple - Favorites Mix on Tuesday (and this is consistently spot on with my listening habits, probably similar to your Daily Mix 1 on Spotify), New Music on Friday (this one is usually pretty off for me, I think Apple Music treats this more like Spotify’s Discover Weekly instead of Release Radar). I no longer subscribe to Spotify but I keep it on my phone just to check Release Radar on Friday. Then you get a Chill Mix on Sunday - haven’t really checked this out too much.
    • If you are deep in the Apple ecosystem - iPhone, Apple Watch, AirPods, Apple TV, eventually the HomePod - Apple Music plays nicer across all of these.

UPDATE 2: Steven Troughton-Smith poked around the IPA:

TL;DR it’s no wonder Amazon took so long in porting their app to tvOS; it’s a giant, [presumably] in-house web-based multi-headed hydra designed for a hundred different devices and consoles that probably needed a new UI glue layer for tvOS (but probably doesn’t use webviews).

I find it hard to believe that getting this custom cross-platform monstrosity running atop tvOS was less work (and would be easier to maintain) than just writing a goddamn native tvOS app. I can see why Amazon doesn’t want to create a new app from scratch for every single “smart TV” platform, but Apple TV is a big market.

Prime Video is, without question, the worst Apple TV app I have on my Apple TV (taking the crown from Hulu).

what's even the point if it's just a shitty app - disappointed in amazon but that's not super surprising

Is it horrible because it doesn’t fit the Apple ascetic? I’ve used the app some on my Samsung TV I just was excited for it to come on the Apple TV since that’s what we watch everything through since tv apps are slow but I never had a bad reaction to the Amazon app when we used it previously.

    I have both.

I use spotify the most because it logs what I listen to on my last.fm account. Also I like the stats they give you at the end of the year.

I use apple music while driving because it works flawlessly with apple car play. The spotify app does not work at all when it comes to car play.

So does everyone in San Francisco have AirPods? Lol it’s absurd. I was in Seattle last weekend and now in SF I feel like I’ve been living in the Stone Age

Do the airpods sound better than the stock ones you usually get with your iphone? The stock ones sound like trash imo.

They're everywhere in NYC too. I think over the summer I noticed maybe 2 out of 10 people with them, now it seems like it's an even split.

In my opinion, yes. They sounds pretty comparable to the BeatsX earphones.

Anyone have a quick fix to get the play button to pause/resume Spotify/iTunes on High Sierra?

Installing this will "solve" it: MilGraCom — High Sierra Media Key Enabler

It just puts a black dot in your menu bar while it's running, but it gets the job done. I was also super annoyed by the new behavior, ha.

iOS11 notifications disappearing from lock screen | Official Apple Support Communities

I'm turning off "Show in History" for notifications to try it and see if that works per recommendation by a few people in that thread. Really annoying they haven't issued a fix for it

Edit: should probably clarify my issue since there's a lot of different ones being mentioned in the thread, my entire control center disappears, no notifications, no clock, no widgets, etc.

  19. Sources: Apple is acquiring music recognition app Shazam
As Spotify continues to inch towards a public listing, Apple is making a move of its own to step up its game in music services. Sources tell us that the company is close to acquiring Shazam, the popular app that lets people identify any song, TV show, film or advert in seconds, by listening to an audio clip or (in the case of, say, an ad) a visual fragment, and then takes you to content relevant to that search.

We have heard that the deal is being signed this week, and will be announced on Monday, although that could always change.

One source describes the deal as in the nine figures; another puts it at around £300 million ($401 million). We are still asking around. Notably, though, both of the numbers we’ve heard are lower than the $1.02 billion (according to PitchBook) post-money valuation the company had in its last funding round, in 2015.

    Hm.

I don’t listen to the radio as much as i used to, especially on commutes, so i only occasionally use it now, but i do like it. Certainly filled a need.

I have to restart my phone about twice a week to get songs to add to my library from Apple Music. Anyone else have this issue?

After I restart it works for a day or two but then I have to do it again. The songs say they add but actually don’t.
