Hope it happens because I plan on living there in a few years.

Seattle makes too much sense for it not to happen. Look at how well the Seahawks and Sounders have done in the Sonics absence.

Doesn't Spokane sell out nearly all of its WHL games too (6,000 seats or so)?

Spokane is basically Idaho, but yes.

The parallels are striking but the key difference is I hate JvR and hope he gets eaten by a mosasaur.

Not sure about Spokane's #s but we have two WHL teams sandwiched in between Seattle. One about 20 miles south in Kent (Seattle Thunderbirds, 2017 WHL Champs---got owned in the Memorial Cup) and then one about 30 miles north of Seattle in Everett (Everett Silvertips, birther of future Flyers hall of fame, Carter Hart) and they both do quite well.

Imagine one of those moves if/when an NHL team arrives. Can't imagine both will sustain with an NHL team.

So if Seattle is added as an expansion team, who moves to the Central? Arizona?

Prob most likely with AZ on Mountain time.

Or plz put CO in the pacific and move the Alberta teams to the central and watch everyone lose their minds.

love the idea of another expansion team, but hate that it will mean another year of hearing about how x team is going to lose x player as a result of this... it was so tiring to hear about the Jimmy Howard vs Petr Mrazek, who will be exposed? debate.

It'll be done by early 2020, so in time for the 2020-21 season.

So basically Seattle is going to be getting a team by expansion or relocation by the 2020-21 season....period. Awesome. NHL has wanted this for a while but Seattle had to get their arena shit together.

Who needs a team in Quebec City when you can put a team in nanavut

Seattle is going to be a goooooood addition. I’d prefer they relocate the garbage that is the Arizona Coyotes though. I don’t want to see any more players go in another expansion draft.

It would be fun for Seattle to get reverse thunder'd with a bunch of great prospects and picks from chayka

It won't happen but it'd be sweet if the Seattle Thunderbirds just folded and the NHL team (when it happens) assumes their name and jerseys. Some of my favorite jerseys in all of sports.

Ericsson, DeKeyser, Abdelkader, (Mrazek?) , Other Regrettable Contract

that would be my dream, and maybe we could "bribe" them to not take Mrazek by taking the first three

Totally forgot that the WHL had a team actually situated IN Seattle.

I’m sure this has been posted already (haven’t read entire thread) but:

Shut up Bettman. You’re giving Seattle a team dude.

By the time Seattle's team is up and running, Ericsson + Mrazek will likely be gone. We're talking 2019-20 at the soonest, I'd imagine? Ericsson would be in his last year, assuming he isn't bought out. Mrazek's time in Detroit is done this year unless he turns it around and can prove he isn't a disaster. Don't worry, Holland will get his extension and make sure to lock up some Mike Green replacement (or Mike Green himself) to a long term deal that we want to burn the moment the ink dries.

He'll make some comment about how he isn't going to bribe because he values his draft picks and is going to deal with whatever changes as they happen.

It’ll be a shame if AZ gets moved to the Central though, cause by that time the Hawks will the bottom dweller only for AZ to come in and fuck that up.

DeKeyser would be my choice to go, no way is that guy worth $5m a year. If we would have lost that Jets game and then maybe the one or two after that (as expected) I was expecting to see Green get shipped out before his value and motivation is completely gone this season. I hope we can get a solid package for him whenever he's traded out
