Missed out because I was working today. Is it that much better than KBS? I’d love to try it sometime.

I really like KBS too. Just killed my last one a couple weeks ago for my birthday. I'm not sure which one I like more, but this is kind of just KBS with that added dimension of the maple flavor. They're both really great beers. I grabbed a couple bombers to take home to the family at Christmastime.

Had a draft pour of it today at Hopcat while "working." It was very good.
I think it is. I find the handful of times I've had CBS in the past, and today, that CBS is just all around a smoother beer than KBS. Barrel aging tends to be better on it, IMO, and the added dimension of maple syrup is good. I thought this batch did a good job of balancing the sweetness. CBS is probably sweeter than Bourbon County which is almost right at my sweetness cap.

Sounds like a good job perk.

I off-set it by ordering a beer the brewery I work for makes, so I reasoned it as I'm supporting the business I work for, the business I need to buy our beer and then it just made me happy to have a CBS haha.

Do you work at Hopcat, or somewhere else?

Having some Garrison City beers tonight. Tried an excellent Nordic Saison, white stout, Berliner, and pale ale. Dover, NH is a very underrated beer town.

    Nice. Which one?

There are so many great beer towns. I feel spoiled sometimes living in Grand Rapids, but there are lots of places I’d love to explore.

Ozone's Brewhouse. We don't make it to the west side of the state, though. We chose to go to Metro Detroit as the first place outside of Lansing.

Looks like you guys have some pretty interesting stuff. I'll have to make a point of stopping there if I'm ever in your neck of the woods.

Even Flying Fish, a mediocre brewery altogether, is trying a NEIPA. Smh

I just saw the other day Sam Adams has a NEIPA now. Kind of funny since not too long ago the founder talked about how they weren’t making IPAs just to follow trends

Not really sure how making an IPA is trendy... seeing how old of a style that beer is.

Making a NEIPA is very much following the trend.

speaking of the Answer, has anyone ever been to Richmond? thinking about making a trip over MLK weekend and I was wondering if people had suggestions! I know the Veil is also there. while I'm super into beer, my girlfriend is more into wine. so any wineries would also be appreciated. or just general recommendations!

I live there. Breweries you should check out are The Veil, Triple Crossing, Final Gravity, The Answer and Ardent. Beer Bars to check out Mekong, The Answer, Cask Cafe, Commercial Taphouse. There is a local Cidery in Richmond called Blue Bee that is cool. There aren't any urban wineries in Richmond at the moment but there is a pop up natural wine bar that occurs called Subrostao, it happens every other weekend for the most part so I don't know if it will be happening MLK weekend or not. Also Barrel Thief is a nice wine shop/bistro where you can have a glass. There is a winery called Upper Shirley thats like 30 mins outside of Richmond on the James River that looks nice. If you want to get in to restaurant recommendations just let me know like price point and style you're looking for. Also if you're into cocktails and stuff let me know and I can rec some spots just for that.

are we still lucky to be here? Prestigious

I don't have any RVA beer/wine recommendations other than what you mentioned (in addition to Stone), but a couple of food-related recs:

-Jack Brown's Burger and Beer Joint in Westhampton - always rotating beer list, great burgers, and fried oreos.
-Strange Matter near VCU - my favorite place in RVA. Barcade, vegan eats, and the best venue in the city for shows (IMO).

thank you so much! I'll only be going Saturday into Sunday, but I really appreciate all of these! looking on AirBnb, would you recommend the Church Hill area? I found a great place in that area, but I'm not sure if it's walkable to the downtown area (I already noticed that it's not walkable to The Answer or The Veil).

thanks for the recs! much appreciated!
