I find it crazy that so many people that spent so many years convincing the electorate that Hillary is literally the devil incarnate (except for when Obama is the devil incarnate) would advocate a strategy that would almost certainly put her in the White House. Trump is THAT hated.

Yes, Carson and Ellison. I'm thinking more along the lines of winning in cities comparable to London.

There is a Muslim city councilman, Curtis Jones, in Philadelphia. He's been in office for longer than all but 3 councilmembers (out of 17). The last 3 mayors have come from the council so we'll see.

  13. I really like Keith Ellison.

Can you imagine how hard it would be to get a Muslim elected as president here?

Considering the terrible racist backlash, this country is over its honeymoon period of giving poc power.

Given the racist campaign used against Khan, it is good that there was a repudiation. That being said, individual access to power is not the same as collective access. The conservative movement in America was, for a time, willing to give power to Ben Carson, because he parroted the racial logic that is encoded within the American social formation. One can envision a situation in which, sufficiently bolstered by the ruling class, materially and ideologically, Americans would vote for a Muslim that would be willing to murder the "bad Muslims".

I was very surprised/impressed that the majority of Londoners were put off by Goldsmith's smear campaign and dog-whistle tactics. It's a shame that Americans don't seem to harbor comparable feelings when it comes to Trump and the like. In all the celebration of London's mayoral election, it must be mentioned that the Labour party has lost seats in places like Wales and Scotland while the racist UK Independence Party gained seats.

To your second point...if Bobby Jindal and Nikki Haley could do it, a white-washed Muslim could gain power in the states, you're correct. I'd rather that not be the case, obviously.

@Dominick When Iraq Was Clinton’s War | Jacobin

Figure you'd like this. The hawkish legacy of the Clintons.

Moreover, the Clinton-era policy made the 2003 invasion and occupation of Iraq possible, both in terms of practicality — Bush and UK prime minister Tony Blair dramatically escalated the no-fly zone strikes in the months before the “shock and awe” campaign that opened the Iraq War — and in terms of justification: Clinton and Bush defended their actions by pointing to Iraq’s alleged weapons of mass destruction and the need to topple Saddam at all costs.

No joke that was logic I used when I was six. I also thought bank tellers and cashiers were rich because they controlled the cash register.

North Carolina sues Justice Department over HB2 - CNNPolitics.com

Am I wrong in thinking this will almost certainly end up before the supreme court before it gets resolved?

Trump supports HB2 from a legal standpoint but thinks its bad business. Who knows if whoever he nominates will share his views, but its more likely than not.

He's not wrong... Krugman has been saying this for years.
For we have our own currency — and almost all of our debt, both private and public, is denominated in dollars. So our government, unlike the Greek government, literally can’t run out of money. After all, it can print the stuff. So there’s almost no risk that America will default on its debt — I’d say no risk at all if it weren’t for the possibility that Republicans would once again try to hold the nation hostage over the debt ceiling.

To an extent, but I found humor in the headline because it's oversimplifying it. There are issues with the rest of his debt proposal(s), though.
