Chiming in with my thoughts on my suggestion from @iCarly Rae Jepsen.

    Filthy Friends - Invitation (2017)

During my first listen of this album I was struck by just how much the lead singer sounded like the gals of Sleater-Kinney. Lo and behold, ends up Filthy Friends is a rock supergroup comprised of Corin Tucker of Sleater-Kinney along with members of R.E.M., The Minus 5 and King Crimson. With that much firepower on paper, it stands to reason that there might be a lot to dig into here, but unfortunately, this album has not really grabbed me to this point. While I've come to love the driving riffs of Sleater-Kinney, I feel like a lot of my problems with this record stem from the poor production. While Tucker's unique voice is rightfully front and center, the rest of the instrumentation sort of gels into a lifeless puddle, with some of the more lively guitar work getting lost in the mix. There's some fun harmonizing ("You and Your King") and mini-solos ("Despierta") throughout but there is mostly a lot of sameness throughout these 38 minutes.

Just start a private message with @JM95

Assign them 1-2 albums and they’ll do the same to you.

If you’ve already heard the album, tell them that and they’ll assign another.

Once you settle on your albums post them in here for the world to see!

As soon as you think of two albums PM @JM95 . If he hasn't heard them before then you're all set to go. You've got until Sunday to finish discussing and reviewing them in this thread.

I was paired with @jorbjorb who gave me 'Pellow' by A.M Overcast to listen to

I had no previous experience of the band (Indeed, theres was a name I did not recognise at all) and overall I found it an enjoyable, if slight listen.

On first listen, I was a little disconcerted by the off kilter rhythms, but once i locked into the groove of each song I was carried along with each track. Reminding me a little of early Minus the Bear crossed with a Weezer style of pop sensibility, 'Pellow' was an enjoyable listen. I liked the female vocals interspersed throughout the songs (reminding me of 'Designing a Nervous Breakdown' era Anniversary)

I wish the album was a little longer TBH, as at 15 minutes it's probably more accurately classified as an E.P - bit i'll definitely be checking out some more releases from them.

Favourite Track : Violet by Fire Glow

For this round of releases I've been paired with @marioeatworld - They will be listening to The Game of Monogamy by Tim Kasher and I will be listening to Ursa Minor by Nana Grizol

I listened to The Struts- Everybody Wants based on @Fuck You Aurora recommendation

I had already heard "Could Have Been Me" and "Kiss This" (I've also heard what looks to be a one-off single "One Night Only" as well) on the radio

Those songs hadn't really pulled me in enough to check out the record, so this was my first exposure to the record. It wasn't something I probably wouldn't have listened to otherwise. I heard some influences ranging from Against Me! to Queen, but also some from bands I loathe, like Buckcherry. The songs were well enough written, and I can see their appeal(I'm sure they have a high energy show)

The one thing that the singer did on a few songs that I couldn't get past is him rolling his r's when he'd sing them.

All love from me though @Fuck You Aurora

If you don't like Carry Ourselves, we can't be friends. Look past the difficult vocal delivery to find some of the best technical progressive riffs i've ever heard. It's amazing to see that as a rec in here almost off the bat. Kudos to @jorbjorb. Wish that band had made it!
