it's like Paradise but rougher sounding and she yells more than she screams. Maybe you'll like it. personally, as much as I love Paradise, it wasn't to my tastes.

    And @nohandstoholdonto is spinning:
Under the Influence of Giants - Under the Influence of Giants

I feel kind of lame recommending the Vaux album two weeks in a row, but after talking about what we've been digging lately it seemed appropriate.

    Keep on moving. Busy street.

I'm so glad you liked it! I agree with the Modest Mouse comparison. If you enjoyed this one, I'm sure you will like the rest of their albums, they have a pretty solid discography.

@Dirty Sanchez had me listen to Chaos Theory by Amon Tobin, which I had never even heard of before. I’ve been trying to listen to more electronic music so it was nice to get something which is not only extremely electronic music but also sounds like no album I’d ever heard before. I think the closer The Clean Up was my favorite; it’s probably the most dynamic on the album. I will say it took a few listens to really get into; a lot of it sounds pretty similar so I wasn’t initially super engaged. I’ll definitly be checking out more of his stuff now, though.

@Contender assigned me two albums for session #1.

    Tyler Daniel Bean
    Longing.
    2012

I had never heard of Tyler Daniel Bean prior to the start of this. I did a little research and Tyler calls his band "heavy indie" which I think is a pretty accurate description. The vocals are very strong - I couldn't place who exactly he reminded me of, but I read a review comparing him to David Bazan (Pedro the Lion, etc.) and I can see that. There are a couple songs where he screams and those vocals reminded me a little of (early) As Cities Burn. Overall, I really enjoyed the vocals and the album was very strong lyrically. The music itself spanned multiple genres, but some of the songs musically reminded me of bands like Foxing and The World Is A Beautiful Place...

My favorite tracks on the albums to this point are Flowers At My Feet, Lake Eola, Rootbeerlington, and Sometimes The Details Are Underground.

A couple other various comments I have - I enjoyed the dual/background vocals that were present in several of the tracks. Also, this album is only 10 songs and 30 minutes long so it's definitely worth a listen if any of these bands I've mentioned are bands you enjoy.

Here are some of my favorite lyrics of the album (so far):

"If there is a heaven, I hope you're having a good one" - Flowers At My Feet

"I'll always miss you in the fall" - Rootbeerlington

"I hope you never feel at home inside of your own skin" - Sometimes The Details Are Underground

"You're becoming the world and everyone in it" - Sometimes The Details Are Underground

Overall, a very enjoyable album and one that I would not have checked out if it wasn't for this recommendation! I will definitely be going back to this album and also checking out his other material.

    Depeche Mode
    Black Celebration
    1986

Depeche Mode is a band that I've heard of, but have never really listened to. Their only songs that I was familiar with prior to this were "People Are People" and "Personal Jesus" so I was excited to have this album recommended to me. This is the fifth studio album of theirs and from the start of the album it's very easy to see why this band has been such a massive influence to countless bands. Just looking at Wikipedia at some of the artists that have cited Depeche Mode as an influence is pretty incredible - Marilyn Manson, The Killers, Muse, Nine Inch Nails, Lady Gaga, Deftones...the list goes on and on. It's also pretty incredible that the core of the band has been the same for the past 37 years.

Anyway, as far as this album goes, I really enjoyed it. Neither "People Are People" or "Personal Jesus" were on it, so every single song was new to me. My favorite tracks were Fly On The Windscreen - Final, A Question Of Time, Dressed In Black, and New Dress. The entire album is fantastic though. The vocals are great and the music was very enjoyable.

I listened to this album in my car a couple of times and didn't make any notes for this one as far as the lyrical content, but I look forward to diving back into this album and going through their discography.

Overall, this was a very positive session #1. Thank you @Contender!

Correct, @BTDandFeelingThis puts all the names in a generator to make random pairings, that way every week your partnered with someone new so you can discover as much new music as possible!
