There's a ton of brand new fans who don't even know they released an album this year, causal fans yes, but the same people probably don't know about Jesse

I create content for some of your favorite artists

They played Sic Transit Gloria at Emo Nite in Austin yesterday and people were conflicted

That’s surprising, seeing as everyone there were supporting two companies who support known abusers and shitty people frequently in Emo Nite and Third String Productions.

Less surprising is the fact that emo nite has no qualms with playing these songs.

Considering I have no idea any controversy about either of those production companies, I'd imagine plenty of other people are as unaware.

I have found that I and many others are able to accept what has to come to light and move on and continue to listen to the band. I know that won't be for everybody but I feel like over time more and more fans will go back to listening and enjoying.

i'm sure there are people that don't know of the story yet. i find that a lot of those emo nites are people who just want to relive 10 years ago.

    Maybe so, maybe not.

Unpopular opinion I’m sure but I’ve personally decided to continue listening as well.

I wouldn’t begrudge anyone who listens, but I’ve found that for me it’s not that I’m choosing to refrain from listening so much as I’ve lost any and all desire. Which is pretty crazy considering that after SF came out, I was on a big Brand New kick, but I’ve just lost that itch. If I’m being honest with myself, I feel I will return to it eventually, though it will surely be tainted. When will that be? I don’t know. It could be in a year from now, it could be ten, I’m not sure.

I haven’t been following this thread. Is the general consensus just that Brand New will refrain from saying anything regarding their future and just disappear or what?

I suspect we will see word in early 2018 that they’re just done. Nothing else to come. Just done.

I might listen to them one day in the future but I haven't had any desire since the news broke and it'll probably be a long time (if ever, actually)

I have realized that I can't just pretend like they never existed. The influence the band had not just on me but on this entire sphere of the music world is just undeniable. I'm never going to go out of my way to promote them, give them any publicity, or praise them going forward, but they're inevitably going to be a point of reference in my conversations about music.

I still don't really know about listening to the music. I think Deja is probably forever ruined. TDAG/Daisy/SF... I don't know. It's still going to be a long time before I know.

I'll prob listen to TDAG and after again, probably sooner rather than later, but I never listened to YFW anyway and deja is ruined for me now

Tried listening to some of Science fiction last night after out of mana came on shuffle but couldn’t make it through more than one track. The music itself doesn’t feel ruined for me but I can’t listen without thinking of the victims and without it feeling a little sour, so I think I’ll keep the records on the shelf for the time being.

I think it’s a whole other deal for these songs to be played at emo nite / public events, though, where they could easily trigger someone and are still basically being glorified. I made sure to remove BN from all of my public playlists and consider them kind of a strictly private thing, but I guess there is no right or wrong way to go about it.

I’ve deleted Brand New from my iTunes/Apple Music so I don’t have the risk of them showing up on shuffle. This still kind of hurts.

I unliked/unfollowed their social media, and sold their entire Discography on CD, and Deja, TDAG and Daisy on vinyl.
