Is there anyone here who is bi/polylingual, but not from birth?

A couple years ago I started learning Japanese, but one of the hardest parts about learning the language is that there’s basically no direct translation. Learning Japanese is definitely a life goal of mine, but I don’t think I want to stop there. Just curious if anyone has ventured down this path, and how did you do it?

Edit: I stopped taking classes and I basically forget everything

Honestly, jack sparrow a copy of Rosetta Stone. It works. I was learning Italian for a while and it was helping a lot. I need to get back into that again

I jack sparrowed a copy of Rosetta Stone Japanese before I started taking classes. It was cool but my big issue with it was that it wasn’t exactly culturally relevant. All of the examples/conversation pieces were things that I’d say in America, not so much Japan. But perhaps it would be useful if I were to learn a European language.

Yeah that’s probably true. I suppose it could help get all the basics and ideas down, then the best way to learn the culturally relevant stuff would be finding someone who is Japanese or is fluent and spending time with them.

 

Some of you should learn french too.
