Noro came on my daily mix today. I listened to it all and still really like it but it definitely feels a bit soon to enjoy it.

 

Holy shit the Reddit Post about the conspiracy that Jesse planned these allegations to break up the band since deja is the scariest piece of writing I’ve seen so far about this... like wtf?? How can you be that ignorant to the world??

I can't say I've spent much time on Reddit other than to read Brian Fallon's AMA. Something tells me I'm better off.

on one hand it kinda makes me pity them cos theyre clearly so in denial about someone they looked up to being an awful person but on the other hand....fuck them

A black mirror world where gamergate keeps happening to every medium until all that it's left is nazis and we are the resistance. Can't we just leave Earth? Tom DeLonge, I have questions that need to be answered.

 

I never understood what gamergate is, care to help out in a short little description? I tried reading up on it a few times and still somehow don't understand

 

That's because it was a clusterfuck. You're probably better off not trying to understand it. Lol.

Just to add to this list: Employed To Serve and Venom Prison are great female fronted metal bands (both from the uk too). Employed To Serve’s album is in my top 5 albums this year.

This has also reminded I still haven’t gotten round to Chelsea Wolfe’s new one. I must fix that.

 

Imagine... this scene. Imagine that before we knew about this, a feminist vlogger started analyzing songs of the bands that are clearly problematic but we couldn't know better because we are fucking stupid. Imagine this group of people, this whole identity of scene or gamers if you will, at odds with people criticizing what you love. What matters so much to you. And then all of sudden people are rallying with you, performing investigations and background checks to the people accusing what you love so much. At same time, people that run places like chorus or Kotaku are getting attacked too, with claims that they only gave a positive review because one reviewer had a relationship with someone in a band... or a game developer team. They claim it's about ethics in journalism, they say that they are defending the medium they love against these people trying to take away what you love.

All of sudden, you have the alt-right. You have people talking about how the Jewish media is trying to manipulate you. That the third wave feminists hate all men and that this is a war. You see good people, people that are your friends, getting manipulated and maybe yourself got played for a while. And then Trump happens. And then... they are everywhere: they sugarcoat their "red pill" by infiltrating on what you love. That's how you get intelligent people like that degvausser kid going nuts. They think they are doing the right thing, they truly believe that. And that's basically what gamergate was and what is now: a gateway drug to get people converted to the alt-right cause, and that happens even before they realize that this is what is happening. It sounds crazy, because it is. I'm not the best person to properly explain how it's done, but you see it happening with every other medium all the time. First games, then films (way too much clever people around that fandom for them to "win", so to speak), comics (where they are mostly attacking right now) and well, this scene. The music scene. The truth is that gamergate was never over, and it takes many names, and now it doesn't even has a need for a name anymore. It's what we are seeing with people trying to play armchair detectives to Lacey. So yeah, fuck you Lacey and Brand New for not speaking out while this happens. But it's a symptom of a much bigger issue that keeps spreading.

And I don't see it getting better anytime soon.

 

Two of my favourite bands right now

 

I really need to try and see both these live, hopefully I’ll fix that in the new year. I was gutted I was busy for ETS’s Basingstoke gig the other week as that’s only 30mins from me. I was meant to see Venom Prison at the wedge this month too but that gig got cancelled.

 

I saw Venom Prison most recently last Sunday and they were incredible. Both bands are so good live.

whole album is really great, as well as the split they put out with three other excellent bands/artists (ratboys/for everest/pickle boy)

 

Past few days people been dropping good lists of female fronted groups but don't forget amazing bands with women who may not be up front but still play a vital role. Silversun pickups, fucked up, baroness, etc. just as important imo support women in all roles in music

 

Is Fucked Up still around? I'm behind on everything music-wise so I'd love to catch up

 

They put out their yearly zodiac EP still and glass boys was only three years ago, they played in support of Thursday in Canada a few months back too

 

also transwomen and nb performers and poc are just as important in times like this, anything to make this less of a white cismale dominated space is important
