Ah yes, the "YouTuber" that accused IGN of payola even though he is essentially working for Amazon. I'm too tired for whatever this is.

AC Origins is great by the way.

 

fuck dunkey, he ruins games, and don't give me the tired excuses of "satire" and "joke".

he's confirmation bias for the overwhelming laziness, cynicism and toxicity among the community. he just continues this echo chamber and capitalizes off that by making exaggerative and sensational meme like videos to appeal to a narrow way of thinking.

I don't find these kinds of videos informative or funny at all. I saw his video on Paladins and it was horrendous. again, you can be clever and funny, but it's just tired and repetitive and shits on games that should be given a chance.

Popularity means nothing. We have PewDiePie for fuck sake.

Oh and I'll say it another time - AC origins is great and the overhaul the franchise needed. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

How does he ruin games?

 

Dunkey is in my opinion on of the better gaming personalities on YouTube in a sea of garbage in that community. His videos are entertaining and he often has good insight into games with his reviews. Personally, I thought the glitches were hysterical, regardless of my feelings for AC. Like tell me that dumping a dead body into a river, watching it climb itself back up to the dock, and then lie back down on the dock isn't a funny glitch. Beyond that, the block feature is dope as I've learned in the past week or so.

I've tried to have reasonable conversations with you about this for literally a year. and you just come across hypocritical about some companies and not others. Kind of sad to block me over because you don't seem to understand. You're the one that keeps finding an opportunity to attack/be negative about it. I don't spend that much time complaining about games, or finding joy in criticizing/mocking. But the same exact topics in this thread keep coming up and I don't understand why people like doing it or what they get out of it.

 

No you didn't. If someone is ruining games that implies somehow they are affecting the way games are made. You mostly complained about his style.

How is the fact that he is joking and using satire an excuse?

 

Damn way to take the first part literally! It adds to the repetition and echo chamber and overall negativity of gamer culture.

And people often say about a YouTuber or blogger "they were just joking" to excuse either the content or its context. I don't think that always works. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Origins is my fav game of the fall.

 

Dunkey made an entire video making fun of Final Fantasy VII, which is my favorite game, but it was very enjoyable. His videos are a lot of juvenile humor combined with moments of very incisive analysis. His videos are the most entertaining of Youtube gaming content.

I perfectly understand where you are coming from, I do feel like him and crowbcat even more-so tend to enjoy kicking games when they're down and it's not a good look, but I feel like you can't deny that a lot of his videos are just humorous takes on dumb bugs no one should take all too seriously. Not every youtuber needs to cover the entire spectrum of criticism. Sometimes it's just fun to laugh at dumb stuff, and dunkey does a good job of that.

and while I think the toxicity in the video game community has risen to an unacceptable level, being vigilant about what publishers are trying to shove down our throats remains very important, especially as they're becoming increasingly predatory and lenient with their own quality control.

first para- yea, i just don't like the way he does it and when i think of specific games and how they've been unfairly shrugged off even before trying, he just adds to that confirmation bias (like i said w paladins and ppl jumping to "lolz it's just like overwatch, here's a few characters with similar abilities". and i really do think AC origins is much better than many of the previous AC games, esp for people who never liked the franchise before). it's not really new or unique or exciting for me. it stays pretty samey/monotonous.

second - sure, i think maybe other youtubers might cover that issue in a more serious manner but still be funny? i'm so-so on Jimquisition and Total Biscuit. I can't really think of many current gaming youtubers who stay up to date, it seems twitter is more busy nowadays. i used to watch TB and Angry Joe regularly between 2014-2015 but then the former had to stop covering as much and the latter's output both in quantity and quality went down pretty fast.

and uh, thanks for de-escalating and not trying to tear apart my semantics. i think you kinda got where i was coming from.

(i just thought it seemed a bit particular to just randomly post the AC origins video out of nowhere and out of all the recent videos he's published, when we've had the same convo with the same people about that game multiple times within the past month in here already)

- I am jonesing to try out AC:Origins but right now I work like 2193123 hours a week. AC2 is one of my all time faves so :)
- Jim is annoying and high on his own supply (though an important watchdog for the industry, just don't make me watch him.) Joe is fine but usually a little late to the party.

Personally I'm a huge fan of the guys at The Know, Ashley and her whole team are incredible, wether it be news, long form videos or review round-ups. If it comes to reviews, I really like the Easy Allies guys, even if Huber can get a little too hyped for his own good (still bitter I fell for his 5/5 for that dumb Quantum Break game) and people seem to dig this guy ACG(?). I watch some of his videos but they tend to be a little too in-depth. Like, Yo I don't care about dolby surround channel separation haha
